30 Bananas a Day!

So I got home today and my mom told me that my box of dates had arrived and so I was all excited and threw open the box!! But, what I saw made my smile fade away. Some of the dates were unripe, as expected, but the other 2/3 of the box are watery and rotted. And smell like alcohol. I guess they didn't travel well to me or something, but that is the last time
I order any kind of bulk fruit online, I will tell you that much. I'm in the process of uploading a picture to show you guys! Just things to think about before you shell out tons of money on fruit online.

Have you contacted Bautista?
I haven't had a chance to contact them yet, and Im well aware that posting things like this on a forum make them less likely to be nice to you, but it's a Sunday afternoon so I couldn't really call them. The pictures are up on my profile of the box, and the ones I saved. I know those are the unripe ones, but all the rest were pure water. :(
That's disappointing! I ordered a 7 lb. box of dates a few weeks ago and mine arrived fine. Definitely call them to see if they can give you a refund or a credit.

I've ordered fruit online a lot and it does occasionally take longer than expected and rot in transit (not very often though, in my experience).

That being said, the burden is on them if the fruit arrives damages or spoiled. There are regulations that require them to give refunds or replacements if a certain percentage of the food is inedible. Just call or email them a picture and they will take care of it. They have definitely dealt with the problem before.

What a BUMMER.  There has to be some issue in the shipping,....I got a shipment that was sent out on a 117 F degree day (at the farm) and was delivered here in Maine in the five normal days it usually takes and they were/are perfect.  Too bad, I bet they'll work with you, super nice people.
Yeah!! I think part of the issue could have been just the time they spent in transit. I'm from Canada and they were sent over the labour day weekend and took a while to get here. I'll say it here I don't fault them necessarily, it's just information on potential hazzerds ordering from Canada.

how can you tell if they are ripe ?!?

omgsh i've probly been eating unripe ones lol...

lol, the hard/yellow = unripe. they turn dark and squishy when ripe, sort of like the dates you usually see in stores

Some friends of mine just ordered from Bautista and they're having the same problem.

I ordered from them last year when they were fully ripe and delicious. We had no problem but I've heard this more than a few times this year.

I would send them an email. I received all 13 pounds of mine & only 3 pounds are "edible" & even those ones have to be eaten crunchy ( I don't mind). The rest were rotted and covered in mold. They appear to rot as they ripen too.

They gave me an offer of a refund or store credit. i took a store credit cause I will buy their dried dates later on (I've had nothing but good luck with those!)

Anyone know why this is?

I bought some from a little store down my street & hey taste so soft and gooey and amazing!

I just sent them an email explaining the situation and attached the pictures, so hopefully they take a look at it.  I'm not saying that I won't order any other dates from them, but my first experience was pretty discouraging.  Perhaps its just geographical and dates won't make it in a box from california to Toronto intact.  I was really hoping they would be good so I could get some medjool and other kinds from them as well.  We will see I guess.
Damn! We just got ours in the mail. About half are unripe, and the other are moldy. The box arrived dripping with fermented date juice. All of the unripe ones are covered in it.
