I have been taking a small banana smoothie to have for lunch at work along with some other whole fruit pieces.
For a while i was having frozen banana, plums and water in a smoothie which seemed to taste fine - the colour would always change to a dark brown but apart from that the taste seemed ok.
However the past couple of days i have been having just frozen banana and water in the smoothie and by the time i eat it at lunch it tastes different and not very nice at all.
Does this happen to other people? is there something wrong with my bananas? How do i stop this from happening?
Ya if i let my smoothie sit around it gets nasty, like it separates a little and eugh, it makes me wanna hurl, so I just throw it in the compost. xD
throw the bananas into the blender - take the blender to work - easy fixed
Pulse blend your smoothie. 10-15 pulses. Make sure you fill your jar to the brim so there are no air pockets when you place the lid on. Keep cool at work in the fridge or cooler. I show how I take my smoothies to work in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJnaVByhEro
That used to happen to me too but I've been adding pineapple to my banana smoothies and it's been curbing that problem for me. I like the taste of pineapple with the banana better than citrus fruits. I've been using frozen pineapple lately while my fresh pineapple is ripening and it works good too.
I also bought a mason jar mug that I fill to the top and use a plastic lid that screws on to keep the air out.
Cheers (with smoothies) ;o)
thanks Kimber :) - i never thought of having pineapple in the smoothie instead of citrus. I will have to give this one a try.
I think i will have to invest in a mason jar as well as i tight have any air tight jars
both citrus and pineapple are combo abombos with bananas, they will not give you the nutrients or calories you want, at best it's a waste at worst it will damage your digestive system over time. Every now and then if you have a sturdy digestive system and you want to do it for taste it's okay but as a regular thing it's not a good idea. It does not matter if you feel the effects or not- the digestion is not built for this combo and will not process it in a way that will let you absorb the fruits.
It's all about avoiding oxidation like everyone is saying...you can check out our smoothie oxidation experiment in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfMY8MIucNY
Basically, use a stick blender and keep the smoothie in a jar!
I love listening to all these banana experts! My only thought is, is it possible to blend it at work?
its possible if you took a blender to work with you! but i don't have one that i would be able to take or leave at work :P
It has oxidized. Smoothies usually only last 30 minutes but you can try filling the bottle up to the top and make sure there is no air in there and keep it in an icy cooler or fridge till you consume it. Don't forget to shake!
