I'm in contact with organic banana grow(ers) and am putting together the list people that buy organic bananas by the case so that at a certain point perhaps quite soon, we'll be able to buy by the pallet and save perhaps as much as 50%.
I created a sign-up sheet that includes a form that will put together eaters by area.
I believe that in So-Cal we can get together a 48 case weekly banana purchase
And in Nor-Cal we can get together a 48 case weekly banana purchase.
I do not know for sure about the other areas, but I think this is worthwhile as a goal and something that will likely happen as the raw fruit community expands.
Please fill out this form and share it with all other fruit-eaters in the area. Even if we do not get together a 48 case weekly purchase in a particular city, we can put together enough information to have a sort of buyer's union connected and this can be pivoted into something like say a massive date purchase or something like that.
Together, we have a lot more purchasing power. As an individual we may spend $500-$2000 per year on organic bananas. As a collective, we are spending millions of dollars on bananas and we do so very regularly and could easily get on a purchasing schedule. This is a unique opportunity as a consumer.
Again, please please please share this with others in the community and comment on this to keep the discussion afloat. I know we have a very large banana eating population here at 30bad. Imagine if the people that are having trouble affording the diet could cut their costs in half. Imagine saving half of your banana bucks.
Thanks for sharing this. I am going to fill it out and share with the PNW group here on 30BaD. Maybe we can get enough people here in Portland!
Sounds good. I think that basically if there are 50-100 fruit eaters +some other collaborators in a given city a regular pallet purchase could happen
Hey, neat! I love the idea! I'm up north between Arcata and Redding.
