hi guys! i need a bit of help here...
my mum lives a vegan lifestyle now, but her arthritis has gotten worse (osteo and rheumatoid).
I've told her to go oil free and low fat, and make sure she eats MORE (she doesnt eat enough) but she just doesnt understand how fat actually will effect her arthritis in a negative way. I've just looked for studies, and even youtube videos.. and haven't found any valuable information. sure I've found a lot of testimonials and people that have cured their arthritis, but i need an answer of WHY and HOW the fat negatively effects the joints/pain/inflammation....
Hiya, I recently found out that gluten is really bad for the joints! My pilates teacher who is also a physio told me recently that all my pains and clicking and aches sound very like early onset arthritis. I was shocked but I did used to do a lot of gymnastics and sport so I could understand why. And as well I started running recently and she told me straightaway to stop running and see how my joints feel.
Anyway long story short, I also read somewhere through Rosanna Davison ( http://www.rosannadavisonnutrition.com/ ) that gluten aggravates joints and causes inflammation. Her husband has arthritis I think and she put him on a gluten free diet (not fully vegan I don't think). Anyway his inflammation went down so I decided to give it a try.
Couldn't believe it, about 6 days into giving up gluten I realised that when I woke up in the morning I could move my hands straight away! Usually they would be kind of numb and stiff...I never thought much of it....thought it was normal. But no.
Then over the weekend there I swear I only had the tiniest bit of bread and cous cous and the next morning my hands were back to being stiff.
I told my pilates instructor and she said yeh that's definitely linked and that she gave up gluten a long time ago too because of that.
Anyway I don't know if your mum eats a lot of gluten products but I thought I would share because I really feel a big difference in myself!
