no one needs to take vitamins that are not already in foods.
the vitamin industry is largely a hoax though there may be a couple of items like C and E which may actually get assimilated by the body. from what i recall, in order to be useful these components need to be in chelated form (embedded in a complex of organic molecules) so that the body can actually use them. otherwise, we could get our calcium by chewing chalk or our iron by licking rusty nails (this should not be attempted in the alternate order, btw).
about the only benefit that 'taking vitamins' does provide (other than to the industry) is the placebo effect. when you feel good, you think you are good ... even if you are not ... for a while at least.
