30 Bananas a Day!

My sister (who is not a vegan) and I were having a discussion the other day and she said, "Do you know what I hate most about vegans? They are so high and mighty about saving animals but they are ALL pro-choice, which is so hypocritical." I told her I didn't think that was true. (Actually I know that for a fact, because I am pro-life.) But I want to find out in the lfrv community, so I am starting a poll.

IF YOU WANT TO DEBATE THIS, PLEASE START ANOTHER THREAD! I just want a judgement free zone, for people to post either PRO-LIFE, PRO-CHOICE, or UNDECIDED so I can get a count going. I know its not an accurate polling process but I am just curious since there are so many vegans on this site.

I am aware that many people on this site may be pro-life because they are more into natural living than other vegans who may just do it for animals and don't care as much about their health, but still, I want to get an idea.

If you don't feel comfortable posting your answer, then don't worry about it!

Again, I don't want to start a debate so please keep this post strictly informational, and we can debate it on some other thread!

Please post either

PRO LIFE

PRO CHOICE

UNDECIDED

and if you feel like sharing your GENDER that would be great!

* One more note (added later) I am not talking necessarily talking about legislation, as many people don't think the government should be involved in those decisions, so maybe I chose the wrong words... I mean from the moral standpoint of whether you believe it is right or wrong.

Thanks a lot!!

Interesting post! I would lean more toward Pro Life but Pro Sensible is more it.

The vegan approach varies from allopathic approaches in the sense that it treats the body right from root cause and not symptom. I would approach sex and birth control similarly by knowing what my options are, going for the most secure one out there (because nothing is a 100% like celibacy) and being responsible about it. Prevention is better than cure. As with vegan & the body, same with sex and this.

That said, should someone get accidentally pregnant, I think its important to assess what would be the best option for yourself and the child. My mother studied child psychology and learnt this phrase "from the womb to the tomb" indicating how a mother's mental, emotional, physical and psychological state will affect the baby in various ways. I don't think it makes sense to carry a baby if you're distraught about not wanting it, affording it, the father being a one night stand or worse a rapist etc. I understand pro choice in that instance - but getting it done really early vs. someone I knew who endangered herself and the baby when they got it done at almost 5 months.

However pro choice when the two adults causing the scenario lack enough sense to be responsible about it and "it just happened" when it really didn't (know a bunch of these scenarios) and repeated screw ups from people who don't learn from their mistakes would be hypocritical, no doubt about it.

I agree with this about being pro-sensible in the first place, but still lean pro-choice in the case that contraception fails. There are far too many babies being born and people should be adopting, not conceiving more.

Female!

...above all though, people "should" be aware of what they do. Much of who we are is formed already during gestation, and babies growing inside happy, healthy mothers have a much better starting point than babies who grew inside sad, depressed, unhealthy mothers (whose children more commonly need adoptation). Does not mean those children should not be adopted, but the more awareness there is early on, the better we all are off.

Read/watch this though.

That's fine, I mostly agree with you. I was probably an unwanted child.

I just wanted to point out that the child is very much alive, as much as you and me. Maybe more... Abortion certainly kills an alive and conscious being. Not saying it's always wrong, just pointing out.

Certainly the best is conscious parents who are capabale of giving children all the unconditional love they need. To that end, I am pro karezza.
