wow, this is the first time I've read anything like the first article.  I don't know much about it.

i thought all seedless fruit are GMOs. The reason im wondering is because my dad brought home 3 huge seedless watermelon from a roadside stand. The normal me would have split one in half and started eating right away.. i hope i dont have to explain to my dad why 3 watermelons will now rot on the counter..  Hoping to get a reply from someone who knows a thing or two.

Well Cavendish Bananas have no seeds but aren't GMO.  I would think it's a hybrid but I'm not too sure myself.

I strictly avoid GMO's myself and I read up on them and I have never seen watermelon listed as having been genetically modified, plus anything certified organic is not allowed to have been genetically altered so I think your watermelons are safe to eat.  Seedless fruits are hybrids and not necessarily GMO.  But like I said I have never read an article like the one at the top saying she thinks seedless watermelon is indeed GMO.  It makes me want to go find some watermelon with seeds!   I will post this article in my greenparty group and see what some of the GMO experts have to say and report back here.

I think your right with the idea that not all seedless fruits are GMOs, and some could possibly be hybrids.  I have always gone with the seeded ones. I just watched some youtube video of a girl buying a watermelon from a farmer at a farmers market and the farmer explained to her that seedless are 'less mature watermelon than the seeded ones', so i guess seeded watermelon are sweeter? It would be interesting to hear from your greenparty group. GMOs in our watermelon supply would have been a good title!

no response to my inquiry with the greens but I did a search and found a couple of threads here discussing the topic:

Anyone else find it annoying that your legit questions dont get very many responses, but if someone makes a post that somehow threatens the lfrv lifestyle in any little way they get responses out the ass...?

lots of threads never get responses and lots of legit questions get answered too but if you challenge the lfrv lifestyle well you better watch out ;)

You can try changing the title to something more catchy.  how about "seedless watermelon may be a GMO!!!" or "GMOs in our watermelon supply???"

my common sense tells me they're hybrid, because they've been around alot longer (35+ years I'd estimate) than GMO, and I've never seen them on a list of common GMO foods.
