A lot of people have been talking about some of the members at Terra Frutis Being too weak to be actually able to grow enough fruit to sustain themselves. So Rico and few others and i knocked this swale out in a few days and we will post more updates on how it progresses in the months to come. If we get bananas maybe we can just feed ourselves after all!
Here is the video we are using to document the beginning stage!
yeah mulching tomatos i know with grass clippings is actually very effective. I'd imagine it would be a good idea around the rest here too keep the weeds down and such.
I wanted to keep any grass seed off the area primarily. as we chop young grass and are certain it is seed free we are ging to mulch this around plants.
we chopped the grass a few times as it started to grow. I agree the uncomposted food scraps is not ideal but bananas dont seem to care much ime. This may pull N out if it is in the soil but being on the surface i understand that it wont take from the soil and in a week or two mostly breaks down and then feeds the soil. The soil is pretty degraded here as it is the tropics and has been a pasture for a number of years so it is basically clay. I posted an updated video of the whole farm recently but did not really focus on the swale, just glanced over it. I think it is doing pretty well.
