How do you sprout black beans? If you sprout them does it take away the lethal toxin Ricin? Is sprouting better then cooking them?
They don't contain ricin, you can make ricin from what they do contain, lectin
Well, boys and girls......there is this Little thing called getting Old! I'm 39 and well on my way.

I'm no longer able to digest food like beans that I used to consider healthy. I can quite literally put on 3-5 pounds from one"healthy" meal. It sits in my guts like undigested cement and doesn't........shall we say exit? Gives me constipation. And a little salt to get it to taste good leaves me retaining water to really round off the mess.

So yes I love beans!........when I'm in the mood to be lethargic and constipated and gassy!
I can eat cooked haricot beans but tinned Baked beans (uk style) get me rockin and rollin straight away

Yeah, I get a horrible reaction from beans too. Totally understand the cement feeling. I would recommend that if people are on 811 and have a cooked craving, have more fruit, eat some greens, have root vegetables... but STAY AWAY from beans.

Why are people always coming onto raw food forums looking for support for eating cooked foods?........ Dude, the McDougall forum would be a better place for that.
So can you soak and sprout black beans like you can an almond?

Many beans are toxic to humans in their raw form.

In their cooked form, we just do not digest them optimally, farts anyone?  This is a signal that something is wrong in the body.

Then beans are high in protein, and high protein diets may increase ones risk of cancer, arthritis, and kidney stones.

I would say avoid them except as an emergency food.  Rice might be a better emergency option.

Peace, PK

I think legumes can contribute to an acidic ph in your body which causes your body to take calcium out of your bones to buffer the acid so best to stay away from them if you can. Ok to eat as a transition food though, if need be. Best to jump right in and eat all raw, all fresh, whole fruits and veggies. Good luck to you Tumba.
