I work as a Graphic Designer for a real estate company. I used to work in the office but couldn't take it any longer - the office politics, the nonsense everyday chatter, it was all so meaningless and I couldn't focus on my work or my life! So I asked my manager if I could work from home, I gave my reasons and outlined a plan and he agreed. I also streamlined my work and offloaded a few basic duties to office staff so I could cut my hours to part-time.
I've now been working from home for the last 2 years or so. It's great, I make smoothies all day, spend time in the sun every few hours, do my fruit shopping when I need to. I would never go back to 9-5 again no matter what it took. I'd sooner sell all my belongings and live in a tent.
Wow, that is awesome! Do you still get to earn the same amount of money at the end of the month (or week)?? Do you think this happens all over the world, europe too? or just usa?
That's how I felt. Living in Reno was driving me batty too (beautiful place.... but just no culture). So I moved to Korea to teach English. If you have a bachelors degree in any subject, you can get a job teaching in any city in Korea.
When my contract here is finished, I'm going to move to Thailand and teach English there. Most reputable schools in SE Asia require a TEFL certification, which runs about $2,000, in order to teach. So I'm going to this training center in CAmbodia for 1 month to get my certification. Once you get certified you can work anywhere in the world and make enough to support yourself. Korea's been cool, but I really feel drawn to SE Asia.
I had a family crisis in June of last year and lost my job. I've been on unemployment since then and I was barely getting by. I found this a couple weeks ago and it works for me. If your willing to put in a little time, here's a link to help. http://tinyurl.com/fcacom I hope everything gets better.
