I had my mamay sapote confiscated entering the USA last time. Also they took my banana once. No fees.

My goji berries got seized once going into Costa Rica.

I'm an International Flight Attendant, I am in and out of the USA constantly, and I have no problems transporting dried fruit. I've claimed it many times through customs and it's never been a problem. Fresh fruit is another story. However, I do smuggle a lot of bananas out of the country but never in because it's a hefty fine. I call myself "The banana smuggler". ;)

I brought about 12-15 pounds of Costa RIca bananas into the US. I think bananas are the only non-dried fruit that you can get away with bringing into the US, because they are pretty much seedless.

I had no idea we I could bring bananas home Emily! I'm going to talk to the customs agents this afternoon to double check. That's really exciting for me because I end up hungry all the time.

Well, I couldn't!

Flying from UK to LA, I ate bananas on the plane, but forgot to give the peel to the cabin staff collecting.  Sniffer dogs found it - had to go over to a special queue.  Luckily no fine though.

I went through and forgot to ask! One of my crew members told me that bananas are not an exception so I'm not going to try. The fines are just too much to chance it.

I took dates to vegas in january without issues so I think it's fine. I didn't actually claim it though so I don't know exactly how legal that was. lol

Are you allowed to take food on as long as you eat it on the plane before you get off without having to worry about it getting confiscated?

I always do. I've taken a big bag of fruit on. Most airlines allow you one carry on bag, one personal item like a laptop and an extra bag for food.

Just make sure you don't forget and accidentally take what you don't eat on the plane through customs. The reason why they took my goji berries is I forgot I had an orange and banana in my bag so they searched my luggage. I think they just wanted to prove a point.

Yes.

can you bring dried dates into hawaii?
