So I've been sleeping on the floor for about a year now, with no issues I can really think of. I was inspired after seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger's character do it in the movie Twins.
I've noticed it's really only comfortable if I sleep on my back--or else I end up cutting off circulation in one of my arms, but I've heard sleeping on your back is optimal.
I've slept for a a little over a year on a thin futon mattress, that is so crushed room me sleeping on it every night that it's a bit like an absorbent floor.... it feels really goof for me, and if I don't sleep on it I like the couch. Springs just annoy me me!
I like to sleep propped up at an angle-- so my shoulders, neck, and head are cushioned by oodles of pillows!
I love sleeping on the floor.
First of all, love the profile pic, seanfm. Secondly, I am glad you mentioned this! When I was younger, my family couldn't afford my three siblings and I beds, so we all had to sleep on the floor. I slept on the floor up until I was 15. And, I don't remember EVER having back, neck, or shoulder pains. A year ago, my partner and I slept on the floor (on a mattress) for a year; and I also never had back, neck, or shoulder aches.
Now I am back to an old bed and I feel like my neck, back, and shoulders are always in knots. I even try to fix this by regularly doing yoga.
I know this is late but thanks for the love! Maybe you've guessed it's from the jungle book? My favorite scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaWVCRkJWow Hope your floor slumbers do you well.
I've always found the savasana pose in yoga, where one relaxes completely on the floor, to be very comfortable... And lately I've been really uncomfortable waking up in the mornings. Perhaps I should try this sleeping on the floor. Thank you for bringing this up!
i love it! unfortunatelly cant do it currently becasue of where I live, its a basement apartment, but soon.
I have for the past couple years and on a hard surface for a lengthy time before that.
Actually, even being indoors, I'm also inside a little tent--the better to keep off the creepy crawlies which populate my city.
But it could be worse...
I loved playing in tents when I was little. :) I would always set one up in the living room, or make one out of blankets and chairs. :)
I think once I might have used up most every sheet in the house :)
Yeah man, I'm about to go get a tent and sleep on the balcony from now on. I woke up the other night with my roommate chasing a cockroach (and they're huge here in Texas) out of the kitchen to watch it scurry right past me and disappear behind a bookshelf by my head. Then I had to reluctantly fall back asleep, fearing the worst...
That qualifies as a crawlie all right, but down here cucarachas are considered appetizers by the rest of the insect world.
I'm in the tent now because a few years back, when I was still in a real bed, a rude scorpion decided to climb up an overhanging blanket and give me a most unwelcomed wake-up call.
Yes! Been sleeping on the floor for years and never felt better. My sleep is more sound and don't have aches or pains as I did sleeping in a bed. Highly recommend it :)
