What should i do with it? Im thinking a smoothie?
If you do not like the taste raw, it may be your body giving you a signal that kale is not good for you. While the banana police are not going to arrest you for eating kale, the 30BaD team discourages it and here is why:
For optimum digestion, avoid cruciferous veggies like broccoli and cauliflower, and root vegetables like carrots. Some of our members have had problems like diarrhea, gas, and bloating from these vegetables and or slowed digestion which makes it difficult to eat enough calories during the day.
We encourage people to focus on low fat raw fruits and leafy greens like the lettuces. Here is a list that might help you get started:
Hmmm. Thanks for that. I am going to try some recipes tho to see if i do like kale tho.
Raw School is not an 811 site but she has a good reference chart! :) You can read in the 80-10-10 book about high cellulose foods.
A quote from The 80/10/10 Diet book from page 27:
"It is true that cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collards, brussels sprouts, and cabbage are loaded with nutrients, including soluble fiber. But they also contain cellulose and other difficult to digest or even indigestible fibers. By indigestible fibers, I mean that our digestive system cannot break down these materials and must therefore eliminate them. And unlike soluble fibers, these indigestible fibers are rigid and may scratch and scrape our delicate digestive lining as they pass through...These vegetables are best digested in their youngest and most tender state. For best results, they must be thoroughly chewed or mechanically predigested via the use of the blender or shredding device...To be sure, we are capable of swallowing vegetation that contains cellulose and other rough, insoluble fibers, but such foods put a great load on our organs of digestion and elimination."
I hated kale at first too. I used to think it tasted like plastic leaves... lol. Now I LOVE IT! AH, I could eat 3 LARGE heads in a sitting. In fact I'd snack on them on my way home from the grocery. LOL, Try this... 1, 2, or 3 heads of kale. 1/2 an avocado (I use like 1 tsp-1 tbsp), 1 Lemon (juiced), 3 tomatoes (beef steak, or heirloom).
Chop up the tomatoes coarsley
Chop up the avacado fine
Chop the kale fine.
Mix all the ingredients. The better you mix (squeeze, tear, up the kale the more digesible it becomes--kinda a cooked texter) **Kale is a leaf you don't need to worry about tossing or bruising. You could beat the sucker...
PS I LOVE THIS RECIPE...ate it last night. You can add in any bitter greens like collards, or beat leaves
you can find some kale recipes here: www.gastrawnomica.com/blog yummm :)
Only time I eat kale is in a smoothie. I just put it in with other greens and your favorite fruit combo :)
