My parents-well, specifically, my father-constantly sends me emails with links to sites about how unhealthy & deficient vegans are.
It. Is. Driving. Me. Up. The. Wall.
I sat and tried to compose an email back to politely request that he stop sending me these links, but I can't even get through an email. I'm so upset right now. I was having a perfectly fine night until I opened my email to find my inbox flooded with links. "Why you should think twice about vegetarian/vegan diets", "Veganism is not as healthy as you think," "Common Deficiencies in Vegans", God, are you blind? Did you think that I was healthier ten pounds ago? This is so rich coming from someone who pigs out on Chinese food and fries..And it's on a daily basis. He's totally convinced by all of this bullcrap.
So here's my question, forum: How do you deal with the crazies? How do you calm down? This is getting to be a danger to my mental health..
'So here's my question, forum: How do you deal with the crazies?'
You don't deal with them, period.
You give them an ultimatum: You either accept and support my lifestyle or you're out of my life and you'll never see me or hear from me again.
ALL adult relationships are VOLUNTARY so you don't have to put up with your father's ABUSE.
Send these videos to your father.
Thank you, guys.
The Okinawans had one of the highest life expectancies in the world, which was also met with high quality life function without decline in old age.
In comparison, those who migrated to the US, tended to consume a more " diverse" diet rich in animal foods... They have higher micronutrient intakes, but also higher rates of heart disease, dementia and cancer. The Okinawans on the islands had lower rates of disease despite lower ( and in some cases, deficient ) concentrations of micro-nutrients, and HIGHER intakes of sodium.
Americans have one of the highest intakes of bio-available meat nutrients in world, but the outcome is not at all pretty.. Perhaps less really is more. Okinawans were not vegan, but the intake of animal foods was 15g per day... I struggle to see how this in over-all terms of diet could contribute much to health, in fact, it is a negative attribute.
With your fathers manic emails... Maybe the saying " The empty barrel makes the most noise" could be relevant.
When they see that you are dedicated they will back off. Its been almost a year for me and my parents still don't really get it. They probably never will, but they at least stopped making negative comments about it so that's good haha. I understand your frustration though..
greetings leez! and welcome to 30bad!
perhaps it's time to send your father links. here's a good one:
there he'll find actual scientific, peer-reviewed studies which overwhelmingly show that corpse consumption is not healthy (to put it mildly). the stuff he's sending you are either wishful thinking by ignorant people on the net, or poorly constructed studies with erroneous conclusions. here's a prime example of the latter.
you can further point him to interesting items which will undoubtedly make him think about his own charismatic potentials:
(that entire thread has some very useful material, btw)
you can also send him to the 2014 Food Revolution Summit for further education through people who actually know what they are talking about.
there's a lot more, so just ask if you require it (but pm me because i won't be following this thread).
