Hi there all,
I ordered a box of USA medjools from my supplier and when they arrived the packout date on the box was 10/1/12 which means they are 1 year and 1 month old. The dates look fine but are quite hard, what in your opinion would be the longest age acceptable for buying medjools?
+1 They are perfectly fresh as long as they were refridgerated.
Thanks ... it never occurred to me about the date format difference. Good job I never ranted at the company ... he he.
As far as refrigeration is concerned I never put them in the fridge anyway, I keep them in a cool kitchen in the box and just dip in whenever I want them ... the box never lasts me more than a fortnight anyway.
Doesn't refrigeration just make them go hard anyway?
in my experience keeping them sealed, like in plastic is what keeps the moisture in. putting them in the fridge will make them last longer n if they are sealed they will not dry out. I buy an 11 pound box that comes sealed in plastic. I only make a small hole in the plastic n pull my dates out as needed. That plastic makes a huge difference in my dates staying moist. I usually eat ann 11 lb box in 5 days or so. I order a lot at once n keep the other boxes sealed n in the fridge till im ready 4 them.
p.s. I buy from medjooldates.com. they r always super good n fresh! on very very rare occasion I get a box that's not perfect.
