30 Bananas a Day!

Hey Gang,

Got a new question for ya.

So yesterday I ate a mono meal of pineapple (yum) and I'm proud of myself because I actually ate a whole one and my caloric intake per meal in increasing (I'm re-stretching my tummy). At the end of my pineapple I noticed that my tongue had gotten "prickly" and sensitive to anything "acidic." I ate a few romaine leafs to try and counter act it but the feeling stuck with me for the better part of the evening.

So what gives? What's going on? Will my tongue adjust, is this just cause it's not use to that much pineapple? I've noticed many others who make a meal of 2 pineapples and I'm just curious what the deal is.

Thanks!

I had a whole pineapple for lunch today and had the same issue. I couldn't eat the last bit, it was too sharp on the tongue. Greens helped, but an hour later I still have some discomfort.

Hi there guys,

You just need to make sure that your pineapple is fully ripe before you eat it. Unripe citrus is really harsh and will cause pain every time! A ripe pineapple should be a bit squishy to the touch, should smell very strongly and the leaves sticking out the top should pull away easily.

It's actually kinda hard to get ripe pineapples in some places as they tend to be picked before they are ripe (to try and avoid spoilage during shipping). They are never as good when they are picked too early but there you go!

Check this out too, pineapple isn't on the list but it's a good guide for other fruits.

best wishes

Richie

It's the bromelain in the pineapple that does that. Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme (that has lots of health benefits.) The riper the pineapple, the less you'll get "burned."
Ahhhhhhhhhh! It was probably close but not quite ready. This time I'll wait for the mush. Thank you!!!!!
