Not sure how many of you have seen Tarah Shannon's videos and website
But I personally have been so blessed by her. It's nice to see the other videos of people playing in the sun and the surf and some tropical paradise. But reality for many of us is WINTER. So I thought it would be fun/interesting to see who's doing hcrv in winter weather and find out how it's going, what you are doing to keep your goals etc.
For me connecting with people is important for encouragement. THANKS TARAH!!
Also doing outside exercise and indoor exercise.
Perhaps someone more technologically advanced could post all tarah's videos in this thread and I think Chris Randall has some good videos on this too. I figure I can use the encouragement and so can all the other winter fruities out there. So share what you are doing and finding to eat etc.
Hello everyone! I'm Melissa. I'm a complete newbie to HCRV lifestyle. I live in the Midwest, in Iowa. Currently it's 14F, with the wind chill it feels like "-5F". Temperatures will be dropping even more tonight!
I'm in the process of reading through all the posts under this thread to learn about how you all are thriving in the cold... it's truly inspiring! Although this is only my day 5, and I'm in transition, I am so happy and excited. I really hope it lasts and finding a group like this can only make it better! I can't even remember how I bumped into 30bananasaday! The universe is wonderful that way... can't wait to meet and chat with you all! <3
Ughhh. I can't wait until the farmer's market opens. And when I can start gathering fruits and veggies from my grandparent's backyard. The fruit served at our school looks dull and tastes it too.
I try to buy organic produce when I can, but where does that come from? We're in a Winterland right now.
I've noticed that during the last week and this cold snap, I've wanted more calories and more sleep. (the high has been 4F and windy and lows down to 35F below with wind chill). The heat is more constant and it's drier and I've still been skating outside - it just seems to take more out of you to keep your body warm. I have to say when it is this cold I feel out of my element. Even though in general I feel warmer on hcrv. My body really doesn't want to go outside.
This is completely normal!
i agree its -10 degrees and snow here in Amsterdam
i also don't want to go outside :-)
It's best to go outside in this weather! Go snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, or simply go for a walk in the snow! The activity will heat you up.
You're doing great Shelby. You've got the necessary steps figured out to succeed with winter raw living.
Lots of oranges, dates, and bananas. :)
I usually do some exercise indoors and get warmed up, then go outside for a run and it doesn't feel too cold.
Make sure you bundle up, layers make all the difference. You can appreciate the beautiful snow when you're not feeling cold. <3
Im eating HCRV in the winter, it's hard but Im managing!! Frozen fruits and bananas and dates are my staples!
I live about 2.5 hours North of Joni and am brand new to this forum. I signed up a few years ago, and have lurked, but feel completely lost as to where to begin. I find that my biggest problem is location- I'm from Massena, NY, a very small, rural town, and there are absolutely no "specialty" grocery stores. We have an Aldis, a Walmart, a Hannaford, a Price Chopper and a BJs. And yes, it's also very cold and snowy, especially this past month. Additionally, I'm a college student and so my funds are extremely limited. Put that on top of that fact that our county has the highest unemployment rate in the state, meaning there are very few job opportunities out there for someone who can only work part-time, and it just seems like a very difficult lifestyle to implement.
With all this being said, however, I'm still very interested in the 811 lifestyle. This thread makes me think that I just need to suck it up and give it a go. Anyone closer to me than Syracuse?
