How to Make Vegan Dog Food for a Puppy Using VegeDog Supplement

www.ecovegandog.com. In a video record in winter 2009, Whitney demonstrates how to make vegan puppy food using VegeDog, a supplement with all the necessary nutrients for a healthy dog. Whitney fed Evie this food for about 6 months and then switched her to V-Dog Food. She suspected Evie was allergic to one of the ingredients, so she now feed her Natural Balance Vegetarian (vegan) Formula, and Evie is thriving - happy, healthy, and full of energy. Please consult your vet before feeding a dog a vegan diet - Whitney worked with Dr. Armaiti May, a vegan pet specialist in Los Angeles. Vegan Pets Group

For Herbavore Lion

People and guinea pigs don't synthesize their own vitamin C.

When meat is cooked, it destroys the taurine, so it has to be added to cat food..

Many people have vegan cats.

For as I can see, there's nothing written in stone but to love God and your neighbour as Yourself.

Responding to Ian.  My research on the subject Ian.  I'm an omnivore too, and I haven't eaten animals or dairy or eggs for over 38 yearsl

The scientific definition of an omnivore is an animal that can thrive exclusively on either plants or meat not an animal who happens to be capable of eating both plants and meat. If that were to be the definition of an omnivore then any animal could be classified as an omnivore. Cows (obviously herbivore) for example must occasionally eat insects when eating grass. And in factory farms they are forced to eat sheep guts and even the body parts of kill shelter cats and dogs.
Cats (obviously carnivore) will wilfully eat things such as sweetcorn but that does not make them omnivores because they need taurine which is only naturally found in animal based based foods such as meat, eggs and dairy.

There is a big and critical difference between CAN EAT and NEED TO EAT.

HERBIVORES: NEED to eat plants because they require vitamin C not found in animal foods.
CARNIVORES: NEED to eat meat because they require taurine not found in plants.
OMNIVORES: Can get by exclusively on either plants or meat or a combination of both as they require neither vitamin C or taurine from external sources as their bodies can synthesize these nutrients.

I'll write this up more clearly and post it in relevant places to hopefully help end confusion on this issue.

Hello Sun~Rose,

What makes you think dogs are ominvores?

Even if they are ominvores, should they not be having meat then?

p.s, bits of banana are a special treat for them, and they will scarf down the skin if they can grab it!  And, avocado is a big favorite

And to Ian below: dogs are omnivores, not carnivores.  Cat's are carnivores and even cats can thrive on vegan food.

isn't making a dog eat HCRV when it's natural diet is meat, just cause it seems to enjoy it, the same tactic the processed food industry made us believe that McD food items are fine, just because some enjoy them?

I've used Natural Balance vegan right from the start for our new puppies and they are great.  I also give them raw vegetables and cooked millet as I'm not fond of the canola oil in Natural Balance, and am going to contact the company.  Canola is g-m rapeseed (matrching) oil and Whole Foods uses it in there prepared food.

Hello there

I find vegan dog food as strange as humans eating meat. I don't think many people would argue that dogs aren't carnivores, they are designed to eat meat. I don't agree with keeping animals as pets, but if you do, I personally think this is cruel to deny them of their natural diet. I'm not sure I'd want to feed my dog processed dog food, but why not raw meat?

Lots of love
