If I had it to do over, I would eat cooked food to get sufficient calories. Cruise ship food culture is the lowest common denominator of humanity at this point, it seems, so it's hard to secure enough fruit as a crew member. Being a passenger would be easier, but still hard to really get enough cals I think, even though there's often good fruit available at markets in port. But it sounds like you won't be on cruise ships, so maybe there's no worry.
