Hi Chris,

Thanks for getting in touch with the advice. I'm currently up to 2,000 calories a day, just had 8 bananas for breakfast which has taken 1 1/2 hours to consume!? That includes the 6 I blended into a smoothie with coconut milk. That's the biggest struggle for me that it takes so long to eat as I am not hungry, again any advice appreciated. Cheers Ian :)

Hi Chris
Apologies for the delay.. I've not found a chance to sit and do some internetting. I am camping out 'down the back' for the summer, and the internet is up at the house, so if I don't get to it during the day it doesn't happen! ;)

It's nice to hear about how you run the farm. Getting up at 5 seems a good idea.I am hoping to start getting up around then..any day now... Just have to stop turning off my alarm, and also maybe get to bed on time (yeah, I am still having the same problem lol). Also it was 43 degrees here yesterday (I'd imagine that must be like 100 fh? Can't be bothered to google it right now..), so the earlier I can get things done, the better, because working in the heat is pretty unbearable.

As I think I mentioned, we have 4 stallions in stalls, and 2 others that share a dirt paddock with a run in part I can open up if the weather is bad. One of the two outside is a pony called Indy, although I call him Andy because he has a poofy white Warhol kinda mane :P He is half gelded or something, but for intensive purposes, not really.. He is also known as 'one ball' lol. Anyway those are the ones I take care of..  I give them a wheelbarrow of hay each/2 forkfuls (I think it's 50lbs?) morning and night (+/-12 hrs apart) and give them water (lots of carrying two 40lb water buckets around. I also do stalls but not nearly as often as I should.. am forever trying to get on top it, but it only takes a day or two of falling behind to be, well, totally behind. Also I do this 7 days a week with pretty much no help. One of the owners brings a round bale in for me as needed, since I don't know how to drive the tractor. So yeah that also takes me about 2 hrs.. I totally hear ya on the 'depends what else needs doing' thing.. It's always something! Fences.. oh the fences. We have some kind of work horse in the herd (I am not good with breeds..She is BIG), called Doris, and she likes to stomp down the fences (we need more electric..)

There are another 21 in the herd, but they are on pasture and have a river to drink from. There are two older ladies, one is early 20's the other must be pushing 30, that I bring in for special senior formula grain.  Also 2 of the boys in stalls get 2 cups of the same grain in the morning, so Just a little. Unfortunately one of them I can't handle yet (he is a very fiesty and apparently dangerous arab). Of the other 3 there is only one I am really comfortable handling, the other 2 I am still working up to as well. So unfortunately I don't get to turn them out much and have to rely on the owners to do it, but they're hardly ever around, so the boys are probably in their stalls far too much. Also, the one I can't handle - Ameer - I also can't go in his stall to muck it out. So it is quite the conundrum. But, I am working up to things, so hopefully I will be able to start handling and turning them out more, and improve their quality of life..

It makes sense that your chores shift with the seasons.. I am trying to figure out a reasonable system for that too, hence picking your brains about your day. It  seems to me I should get up and do chores really early, before the heat of the day. Good in theory, but so far I am failing in practice! However, I keep trying and will eventually succeed. I have gotten a little bit better/earlier/faster every day so far, so I'm getting there!

Clearly I could not work a real job as well.. I am impressed! Thanks so much for the detailed response, like I said it's nice to hear about how other people do things, especially considering that I have not been to many other stables and am pretty much left to my own devices here..:P

I hope you had a lovely Solstice! take care

Hi Chris, thank you. My three daughters have been my greatest inspiration to pursue a healthy, happy authentic life. It is interesting the part that food plays in all this - it seems to be the key that unlocks so many other doors. Our family has changed in so many ways since we started changing our diet! In just the last few weeks, while researching 811, we decided we wanted to make a 'family bed' and have our kids sleep with us. We made a big bed wall to wall and our kids are so happy. Who knows where this inspiration came from? I feel like positive choices in food are always related to so many other wonderful changes in our lives. In love and light, Rea

Yes that's what i did xD hehe sorry about that :)

I am actually getting a lot better at the raw food thing now - because I'm finding that naturally my body almost seem to call for healthier things over time, and certain foods don't have the pull they once did, I want to go for it 100% now like you said. I guess I'm worried il get extreme detox symptoms if i go to past, do u think i will?

Hehe thanks!! it was delish :D and so cheap just to pick fresh dandelions xD i deffo will have to get my hands on some dates - it sounds yummy :)

Ah, sounds like my kind of day :) Although I suspect it's been substantially hotter here.. Nothing like mucking out in the heat to make one sweat! Hopefully going for a ride sometime soon, since it's so nice out. That's one of the things I have trouble fitting in to my day. Do you mind if I ask what your average day is like? I am trying to come up with workable schedule, maybe I can take a page out of your book?

I see. I go to the same stores, but sometimes I just get so frustrated at the lack of good quality produce even in Whole Foods. I'll have to make the best of it :)

I'm hoping to find some good wholesalers one day. Thanks Chris!
