I've been doing that lately, actually! There are a lot of community gardens around here, but I mostly see flowers and standard veggies like tomatoes and zucchini. I bet my roommates would not at all be opposed to me planting various fruit trees next to our house (there's a little vacant lot that needs some serious cleaning up). I mean what college student is opposed to free food, especially good-quality produce?! The answer is none ;)
You have gotten me decently hell-bent on finding jackfruit around here, by the way. My plan is to look up a picture and learn how to say it in Spanish, because there are a bunch of outdoor Latin markets near me with good produce for GREAT prices, and they tend to have a lot of tropical fruit. I need to learn how to say it in Spanish because most of the guys who run the stands don't speak English. See you've already got me trying new things =P
Hey Alex, I'm actually considering moving to Homestead. My dream is to live close to the beach, so I can go for walks/meditate by the ocean every day. I also want a simple house but with a huge yard so I can grow some of my veggies/fruit!! But I don't know much about the area so I'm trying to connect with some farmers/811's to see if Homestead is right for me. I'm alone with two boys so I need a safe place too. Have you ever been to Homestead? Any lfrv friends there? I'm currently about a hour away...
Sounds great Alex, let me know if you are ever around here, we'll definitely get together. I love love love being outside so I'm up or any adventure =)
HA I think jackfruit inspiring juicy fruit is pretty funny. Is it a sub-acid? Also do you need a more tropical environment to grow it? I may have mentioned that I'm up in Philadelphia.. if we're lucky, we get 2 warm months out of the year. It's not lookin so good so far though, it was in the 90's for two days before dropping about 30-40 degrees, last night it was 39! I bet any fruit would wither in those conditions, tropical or not..
You and everyone else on this site make Florida sound so appealing! It is great from what I've seen, and I love all the fruits I'm hearing about. Would you believe I've never encountered jackfruit? I know literally nothing about it! You should enlighten me =]
I've never heard someone list going out of their comfort zone as an interest, points for that! I'd definitely have to agree. I want to see new places, learn new things, and of course try lotss of new fruit!
Nice! I've been seeing more melons too, find anything else? Personally, I'm waiting for peaches to be in season. I'm gonna buy the whole stand when they are, no joke.
My weekend was pretty leisurely. Just hung out with my roommates and ate a lot of fruit inside because of the rain. Thrilling right? I did get to jam with a couple friends (I sing/play guitar&piano) and that's always fun. What're you into, other than basketball and fruit? =P
Very true very true, and the weather the past couple days was still quitee unfortunate, but it's sunny today! Cooler and extremely windy, but I'll take sunny haha. How was your weekend?
Hey! So I tried downloading Skype a couple times and it hasn't worked. It's definitely my computer though- I've had it for almost 10yrs and it's on the outs =[ As soon as I manage to get a new one, I'll be all over that haha.
Anyway glad your friends are fruit-friendly, growing up on a citrus farm sounds pretty legit. I hope you're enjoying that sun down there, it was nice for two days in Philly and now it's back to being cloudy and around 50 degrees =[
Thanks for adding me as a friend :) I´ve been to Florida, in Orlando - my dream is to live in Hawaii one day. Hope you have a wonderful day - big hugs, Milla
Oh wow thank you so much for all the advice!! Funny, I was just in Florida visiting family in West Palm Beach, I don't know where that is in relation to St. Petersburg though. If we're even in the same area (probably likely given all the traveling you do) a basketball game is for sure goin down ;)
I do have a mac, definitely in need of an upgrade, but I have a mac. I don't have experience using iMovie, so I'd definitely love some advice, thanks! I don't have a skype and don't quite know how it works, but I am open to that too, haha.
Glad you enjoyed your trip! Also hope seeing your friends is fun, can't imagine it wouldn't be. Any of them HCRV or anything like that?
I would LOVE to play basketball! Especially with an expert =] I'm glad the NBA got all that sorted out, too, hopefully things will run a lot more smoothly. You're so right about having to just do it, with regards to getting life moving, haha. I found a nutritional school online that looks really interesting. They have a whole program for holistic health&wellness which is exactly what I want to get into. Youtube and blogging would definitely be great supplements to that, great idea thanks! I just have to figure out how to you know, actually make a video...
Anyways how's everything goin, still in NC? Where's home for you?
That's amazing, really. I'm a 21 year old college drop out trying to figure out what to do, myself. There are so many things I'm interested in and want to pursue, I just don't know where to start with any of them. I just read the first article on your blog about the Hornets. Like I said, I don't know much about sports, but I didn't know the NBA actually owned any of their teams! I would imagine that could create a conflict of interests during seasons, no? Also, I have always loved soccer myself =] Played for years when I was a kid, I really like sports where you're constantly moving. Dunno why I never got more into basketball for that reason!
Thanks, I found a place that sells 3lbs/$1 so I am set! I'm about to run out again but I'll definitely check out your blog this evening. I've never been one to watch/read much on sports, I just love playing all of them, but I really want to start checking out new things so that'll be awesome =] How'd you get into the business side of blogging? Is that your only job? Glad you're liking NC!
That sounds awesome, I've never been to Charlotte but I've heard many many great things! Mind me asking what you do? I'm having a lazy morning myself, but I'm about to get moving and re-stock my banana stash =]
thanks so much for the wonderful comment! it means a lot :) I want more people my age getting into this lifestyle too! I think its sooo important for people to take responsibility for and become aware of their health early on instead of waiting until they become really sick and then dealing with their problems. And the sad part is that a lot of young people usually think the SAD is "healthy" because its the norm and it's what they've grown up with their entire lives, and later on they contract some sort of serious ailment and they wonder what went wrong :/ But hey I see more people on this site and a rising awareness about health every day, so that's proof that the word is spreading :)
