I am 5 days in to trying out the non calorie restricted HCRV. Previously was restricting calories to about 1300 a day (I'm a small frame and 5'3" female), but then fell off the wagon, assuming my body was retaliating from the low amount of food I was eating, for 2 weeks and gained back all my weight eating cooked food and processed sugar :/
To my surprise my detox symptoms this time around are a lot different. This time around I have noticed much less energy and a slight headache. I have been eating A LOT of dates to keep me from eating cooked food, about 90% raw right now. I am wondering if cutting back on the dates and increasing sweet juicy fruit would help?
it's really surprising to me that the dates are causing trendiness and headaches while other fruit like bananas and apples wake me right up and make me feel vibrant and energetic.

Comment by Peter Csere on October 7, 2012 at 7:15am Dates are great for packing in those calories but they are soo low in water content - and they're low in sodium and tend to cause cravings for salty foods. A few things you can do
-Yes, try to eat more juicy fruits rather than dates, provided you can get enough cals
-Get quality, moist + gooey dates from 7hotdates.com, mecca dates, the date people, etc. Much more water than dry, nasty grocery store variety.
-Sip water while eating dates
-Eat celery with dates! Celery and dates are the greatest combo, ever. Always eat celery with your date meals.
Comment by Sasha on October 7, 2012 at 5:16am They arn't pitted, but they have been dried with temperatures around 120, which is a bit higher than what is considered "raw". And you're right, I think a bit part of it might not be drinking enough water. Even though I have upped my water intake since eating dates, I still get thirsty. I'm going to try having more water throughout the day and see if it helps!
Comment by Julie S on October 7, 2012 at 2:27am It's okay to need to eat dates at first in order to get enough calories. Are you sure your dates are raw? I get weird blood sugar issues when I eat pitted (= steamed) dates. Also, are you drinking enough water? Dehydration can cause fatigue.
