I just saw an old friend posted on social media that she was having serious health issues and had to go on a vegan diet. She was asking for any advice and ideas anyone could give her. Without even thinking about it, I started typing away with book suggestions first: The China Study, 80-10-10 Diet, The Starch Solution, etc. I shared with her that I personally followed the Starch Solution (unfortunately I'm allergic to tropical fruits and so 100% HCLF raw is impossible, so I do HCLF starch-based) and gave her an example of what I would buy at the grocery store and what I ate the other day to give her ideas and encouragement. I let her know that I'm available to answer questions, to give tips, whatever she needs right now. She's is young but had poor health as long as I have known her. I'm confident that a lot of her symptoms will improve with this diet change. She was heavily reliant on dairy products before so getting off of that should help her feel better quickly.
I only hope my enthusiasm doesn't put her off. I'm trying to be measured; helpful but not overbearing. But I'm an excitable person, so I'm going to wait for her to make a move to reach back to me before I interject more. I've had the opportunity to witness several friends go vegan and reclaim their health, so I just am so excited to see another one!
Update: 3 hours later...
The friend and I have been talking back and forth on her FB wall and she's going to buy the books we discussed...all of them. Her friends saw our conversation and jumped in as well and asked a bunch of questions about veganism and nutrition (because there is always one that howls "What about protein?!") So now everyone is interested in reading books and watching Youtube videos about HCLF veganism - except that one lady - and this opened the door for me to discuss raw veganism as well! So, hurray! 2 were interested in a starch-based approach, 4 were interested in fruit. So I shared a bunch of HCLF and LFRV Youtube channels with them and we have an open dialogue now between the 7 of us.
