The things people say... *shakes head*

Some people should educate themselves before they say stupid things like:

"fat soluble vitamins can only be absorbed by the body when they are eaten with fat. Olive oil doesn't just taste good, it is also really healthy and will make sure that all the important vitamins are absorbed correctly" - one of my teachers, yesterday

"you know, you will get heart disease if you eat that amount of bananas. That's just waaaay too much potassium. WHAT, you eat bananas EVERY DAY?? OMG! You will end up just like my neighbor! She ate raw food for like 3 months and also lots of bananas, she ended up being hospitalized. Don't say I didn't warn you!" - classmate and smartass-nutritionist-health advisor-wannabe, today

ARGH! It makes me want to scream sometimes... Instead, I just nod, roll my eyes behind their back and smile. I tried discussing with them, how a vegan lifestyle is healthier than a "I am hungry and am eating everything in sight" lifestyle. Result: I am the class weirdo. People looove making fun of me. It doesn't bother me though. It is actually really entertaining sometimes what bulls*** they come up with. Though you'd think that a college teacher would know better... Then again, nothing really surprises me anymore!

Actually Vice she was wrong about the olive oil. When people say that "fat soluble vitamins can only be absorbed when they are eaten with fat," they forget that greens themselves contain fat. Approx 9% on average from green vegetables and leafy greens. 

I suggest you take a look at the part in 80/10/10 where DG discusses oils. Oils are refined fats and are rancid by their very nature - the only time they are not rancid is right after they are cold-pressed. They impede digestion and no significant benefit can be had from including them in the diet, even in small amounts.

I just laugh at their comments. If only they knew how silly they are.
I mean, I've never seen another animal put oil on their salad so their body would absorb the vitamins ;)
And also never heard of a monkey with a potassium overload issue!

A reunion would be awesome :P But I just wish they would switch to a healthier diet as well, and experience the health and happiness, just like me. Then we'd all look hot, sexy and healthy in 20 years :)

she is right about the olive oil though, it is good for you, you just don't need to have a load of it, or daily.  A tablespoon in a salad twice a week is more than enough, it's the fact that people think they should drown salads/fry in it/use as much as a waterglass a day, is what is bad.

I immediately thought of you going to a reunion 20 years down the road.  Lookin' all hot and healthy while they're all overweight, sweaty, stinky and wrinkly ;)  They won't be laughing then!
