30 Bananas a Day!

Well, hello! My name is Flora, I am fifteen years old and I am an aspiring fruitarian... My family aren't entirely supportive - my father says "do what you like" (but still obstructs me by offering me cooked food and trying to get me to eat out!) whereas my mother just completely says no to me being a fruitarian. But I'm going to persevere and eat as much fruit as possible, while working on my parents to try to show them that I can and will be healthy on this lifestyle! I'm really hoping it will help improve my digestion, which has been troublesome for me as long as I can remember. No matter how 'healthy' a cooked meal I eat, digesting it always makes me feel sluggish and a bit sick. So, anyway... I'm here on 30BaD to find support and fruit-friends as I go on this fruity journey... hehe! Much love x

Thank you Ayllx!

I had a look through your page, it's awesome how your parents are okay with your being 811... Mine still aren't... I think my mother thinks it would just be a reccurence of my EDNOS, like, another way for me to lose weight... Also, she tried being raw when she was younger, couldn't get in enough cals, and gave up. Sadface. My dad will let me be fruitarian when I'm at his house (split parents~) but, and here's the big problem for both of them, apparently it is too expensive to support one fruitarian in the house while everyone else is still eating cooked food. I understand this I suppose, though it's a shame. Hopefully I can get a job soon, and my (too expensive) phone contract will run out this year, so I'll have more money to buy fruit for myself.

Um, anyway, thanks for the support!

Hey there!  I used to have the exact problem.    My parents and I had a year long "battle" about food... they finally gave in and dropped the cooked food last november.  Yours will come around, too, if you show them how amazingly healthy you can be.  ;)  Keep at it~!

Same problem with me! Except, I haven't quite told my dad, but he's starting to pick up on the plethora of fruit I buy and eat within 2 days. ;)

Thank you, Jonas (:

I think it would be a great idea to show her the book - as soon as I get hold of a copy, that is... However I doubt she'd ever change back to rawdom... she seems to have quite a small stomach and says it was very hard for her to eat enough raw food, and also, she has read this book about 'how cooking made us human' which seems to have convinced her firmly to stick on the side of cooking, although I also had a look at the book and its "evidence" did not sit quite right with me... Then there is also the problem of my step-family! My step-father can barely cook at all and he has this ridiculous notion that 'healthy food is a matter of opinion'... he's a meat-eater and a smoker and is never going to change unfortunately.

Anyway, sorry about my little rant, haha... Thank you for all the advice, it's so lovely of you to help me out! (:

Welcome to the site.

It's really tough changing diets when you're still living with parents, but persevere as you say you are, the rewards you'll reap in health is sure to challenge the negativity of those around you!

If your mom has been raw before, there's a great chance she could be enticed to try it out again. Perhaps you could get her to read "The 80/10/10 Diet" in an attempt at getting her to understand where you're coming from, as well as maybe helping her see the differences between this lifestyle and the not-so successful raw lifestyles. :)

Thanks for the advice, Karen! (: Mono meals sound like a food plan for me.

I would jump straight into mono meals to get the best digestion if that is your goal .... :) good luck and welcome !
