I have joined Rinn's October Challenge because I need a reset and refocus.
Most of the summer I have been working on a project that involves 2-4 hr commute each day, plus long hours. Since I also live on a farm and take care of the animals here, I have 2-6 hours per day of chores.
The result? Little to no working out, not enough sleep. It's been a real drag on me. The project is involving public safety, so its important, but it is wrapping up and if I am not healthy, I wont be able to work as well as I can when all systems are green.
So this is a chance for me to do a reset, to put my health where it belongs, priority one.
My goal as I start is pretty simple, I want to work out at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. I'm sure as I get into it, that will shift as my ability grows.
I may also need support (as I will still be working on another public safety related project) to stay properly motivated. I keep telling myself that if I am not well, I cannot do my best, but I find it's tough for me to stop work when I can "get just a little bit more done".

I actually bought/downloaded that book... haven't had a chance to open it yet... LOL! Well, maybe now instead of fooling around posting on 30 bad......
Yeah I've been going out for walks at lunch, even if just strolling around in the parking lot getting some sun.
Comment by Rinn on September 29, 2011 at 5:45am Wow your work keeps you as busy as my new baby! LOL
I agree with Robert's suggestion to do body weight exercises and break them up throughout the day. And maybe find time during work to take a 5 minute walk to get some fresh air; that used to help me when I worked in an office.

Comment by mathyou on September 26, 2011 at 12:43am 2-4 hr commute?! ouch. i have an hour roundtrip everyday that i thought was bad.
best of luck in october. good first step of identifying your problems.
2-6 hrs. of caring for animals. sounds like you're already working out! don't burn yourself out with the exercise. nothing wrong with taking things slow.
Comment by Robert K on September 26, 2011 at 12:41am Great to see you going to put the effort in :) One thing i recommend you check out is body-weight exercises. Even while at work if you do have some spare time, they are perfect to do as there are literally hundreds of them, so that no matter what your situation is, you can still exercise.
Here's a good book I just bought recently for body weight exercises. It's all good info, just skip the nutrition chapter ;)
