30 Bananas a Day!

Time for my health story and some before and afters.

I'm a bit nervous to share this, but here goes.

So I got ill when I was a very young child and remained ill for 12 years. During this time I received very little help from doctors and was in fact treated very badly by them. I would probably be dead now if I had not taken my health into my own hands and stopped listening to the doctor’s advice. My illness consisted of pretty much every symptom under the sun: excruciating headaches, stomach problems, muscle wasting, joint pain, exhaustion, chronic weight loss etc. Although I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue/ME at the age of 12, many medics also tried to convince me I had an eating disorder. It must be terrible to have an eating disorder, but it is also terrible to be told you have one when you do not. What’s more it’s very dangerous. I displayed no signs of an eating disorder except weight loss (a symptom of many illnesses). I ate around double the recommended amount in an attempt to keep my weight up, was taking no exercise and yet the weight just fell of me. I saw so many doctors over the years and not one of them figured out what was going on. They didn’t look so good when after twelve years of pain and suffering, having nearly died I was finally found to have celiac disease, severe grain intolerance and dairy intolerance. Not an eating disorder then after all. A digestive disorder. What’s more, it was I who found out about celiac disease while researching online, and requested to have testing, and to see a gastroenterologist and allergy specialist.

I really do not know how I survived those years. Heaven knows why I didn’t die. But I'm sure glad I didn’t.

A picture’s worth a thousand words and here are mine. My before photos show me two stone heavier than at my most ill. My worst photos are two awful to share.

Having had celiac disease undiagnosed for so long obviously had an impact on my health, and I was left to pay for my doctors’ ignorance with a host of health problems. I have now cured myself of all of these and lead a happy active life. It’s lucky I’m a determined person or I would not be where I am today. I hope you find inspiration in my story and that I can inspire others to regain their health like I did.

(I tried to upload all the photos as one pdf but it didn't seem to work, so sorry about having to open each picture individually...)
