30 Bananas a Day!

It's been several months since I last posted anything, and to say a lot has happened would be an understatment!  I'll start with the best:  In July, my husband and I ran the San Francisco marathon, just as we planned.  I did it raw vegan style, as opposed to the Oakland Running festival back in March where I was only vegetarian.  What happened?  I shaved of 51 minutes from my finish time from a 5:17 to a 4:26!  Immediately (the next day) my family moved from San Francisco to Georgia because my husband had orders (Army).  This is where things started to go sour. I started out doing extremely well.  Eating on the road is not easy, but I would stop at grocery stores as opposed to fast food, and I would get whatever chopped fruit they had.  I continued to eat raw.  As the days went on, I found myself getting cooked this or that (all vegan, but cooked).  When we got to GA, we had to be in a hotel for about 2 and a half weeks until our house was ready, and this seemed to give me more excuses to eat out.  I remained vegan (of course), but I found myself eating almost all of my meals cooked, or eating lots of fats.  This continued until we got into our house and got set up, until about 3 weeks ago.  What happened to my body?  I ended up in the hospital with a massive migraine, and chest pains due to massive indigestion.  What else you might ask?  I had gained 12 pounds, and my blood pressure was high.  What did I do to my body!  Just about 2 months of eating cooked high fat vegan food had undone all the great things my raw lifestyle had accomplished.  Was I stupid?  I have been back on the right path for over 3 weeks, and had a follow up with my doctor.  My vitamin levels are all normal, I lost 7 of my gained pounds, my blood pressure went back down to normal, and imagine this, my energy level is back.  Moral of the story: no matter how many people say this lifestlye is too harsh, or doesn't work, I am here to say it does work, and best of all, its the only way for me.  I will never ever let myself get off track again.  I saw such terrible effects on my health in just 2 months of getting off track.  NOw that I am back on track, I feel so much better, I am running farther, and I am looking forward to more marathons.  I can't say that I like Georgia, but I am looking forward to my husband getting out of the Army and going back to California.  In the South, they are not very raw friendly.  We are like weirdos or something.  California has a much more open attitude.

One more thing:  My daughter that I mentioned in previous posts, with Cystic Fibrosis has gone mostly raw (against doctor approval).  Not only does she feel better, she has GAINED some much need weight, going from the 7th percentile to the 35th percentile; a great accomplishment for her small body.  I am forever a high carb low fat raw vegan, and my voice is going to be much louder than ever!!

Hi K. Im so happy 4 you. Very interesting for me to hear about the migraine. I went 80/10/10 to get rid of migraines 6 months ago. Im not totally there yet, but now have 80% fewer migraines. Menstrual migraines are tough to get rid off. I live in Denmark where is very cold. Still have patatoes with veggies as a soup once a day with a little sea salt (not much). Other than that I only have fruit and greenjucies. Do you think it will make a difference going 100% raw? Also I still drink tea 3 cups a day. I did an amazing podcast interview with Alicia Grant from raw synergy tv (Listen on iTunes and write in enerGittes talkshow) who had bad migraines and now is 100% migraine free after 811. Lots of love from the daily enerGizer Gitte

Thanks guys!  I felt like it was my duty to post this.  So many people think this diet is harsh, but the way I was feeling is what's harsh, especially since I had already been raw and knew the benefits.  It's so easy to get caught up in the excuses once you get off track ie. at least I'm still a vegan (which is better that the SAD).  I kept telling myself that I wasn't doing that bad, even though my health was telling me otherwise.  Finally, enough was enough.  I knew what the right path was, after all, I was on it before, I just had to quit giving myself excuses.  Eating the right way (HCRV) is no harder than eating the wrong way.  Actually, its much easier.  No cooking!  And I'm saving time not having to sit in the doctors office, or take breaks during housework because I'm so tired.  Marlie, I'm glad you found my story encouraging!  A big part of this site is for us to share what works for us or does not work.  It is to help motivate and encourage people whether you're new or have been HCRV for a long time.  I have read many stories, but the best motivation for me thus far has been my own body.  There is no lie in what your body tells you.  The only difference is that I actually listened to my body.
