Hi Fruit people, in your collective experiences have you suggestions for slowing down
or eliminating the zillions of fruit flies growing exponentially from the ever renewing bowls of
fruit on my table? thanks

Comment by Windlord on July 27, 2012 at 11:39am if you decide that the flies are worthy of your vegan mercy (as they hope you do), here is a humane method of removal.
Place their fave piece of cut fruit in a glass jar. Cover with a thin plastic wrap and secure with a rubber band. Poke some small holes in the wrap. The buggers will buzz in but won't be able to find their way out. Once you've collected a few, you can release them to the great outdoors.
And to prevent the infestation in the first place, ensure that none of you fruit stash is damaged as this is what will attract the beasties. They won't hang around whole unblemished fruit. Also, it may be that some of your stash is actually a vehicle for bringing them in as babies. I've found that apple nans (at least those I've bought imported to the US mainland) might be just such a culprit.
