30 Bananas a Day!

So today was a day at work, my first day there since i got my new doo, and it was nice to hear positive comments about it :)  I only had one little talk today with someone about being vegan.  She was eating a pork burrito during the conversation nonetheless......and she was telling me how her niece is vegan and that she always posts "facebook stuff about arguing with people over how she eats.  She says stuff like would u eat ur cat? and all that....Us meat eaters dont usually pick on people for being vegetarian (lol ya right), so why should she always have to say things about people eating meat?"  I told her ive had an instance with a friend who used to be vegetarian for years and then went to eating meat.  He hunts i believe as well, and was trying to argue with me one night that a fruit (i think it was tomato, or something that is of course a fruit) was a vegetable.  I told him that all fruits are the reproductive parts of the plants, hence their seeds, and that vegetables are the root part.  Atleast thats the thing i remember the most clearly from nutrition class, because it stood out the most to me.  He kept telling me it wasnt true, then asked me well whats a pumpkin? peas? all this stuff, he then ended the "argument" with "well i know im right".  So i mean, its very difficult to deal with people even if you are telling them straight up facts.  If they are stubborn enough, they wont budge.  That friend of mine said he even "makes up for all of the time he missed out on eating meat back then now.  meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner."  I must ask him what exactly made him decide to eat the meat if he was raised vegetarian...

My mom told me today that she was getting some "funny" comments regarding how i eat.  She said people are asking "where does she get her protein??!" "man thats a lot of sugar"  "well i guess youll get protein if u eat 20 BANANAS i guess..."  of course my reply to these are oh my gosh.  Its just mind boggling to me how uninformed people are and how they think the ONLY source of protein....is from an animal.....any time someone asks me that question from now on i'll ask "How does a gorilla get theirs? A horse? Pretty sure theyre a lot stronger than most humans."  I really want to do some films asking random people about their views on meat or not eating it and everything.  I think it would be fun to shed the light.  I cant wait till we have another family function, im excited to hear their remarks and then to come at them with the truth.  Just have to study up a little more on 811 so i can be fully prepared.  Im not going to let anyone, esPECIALLY family, make me feel bad about eating fruits and veggies.....and then for me not to return the favor of asking howcome the way i eat is so rediculous when you are the ones eating dead animal flesh and secretions and mold and carcinogens.  MMM sounds like exactly what i should be doing!! Maybe then i'll get diabetes like a few of them!  or need heart surgery like my pepe, oh joy! i should DEFINITELY be eating like them.......oh the sarcasm, it lightens up my mood a tad when i start to get a little over heated on thinking about that subject.  What is so odd about eating just fruits and veggies, seriously?.....It's not odd to eat a dead animals leg that u slather with chemical and preservative and then add carcinogens to on a grill?.....obviouslyyyyy we up in HERE no whats going DOWN! lol

**TEETH UPDATE** alright so ever since i started 811, i stopped using toothpaste and mouthwash and switched to just baking soda.....i notice my teeth now always feel different, like plaque buildup even if i brush....i have gotten some cavities.....my filling popped off last night while flossing.....and all together my teeth have been getting more sensitive and hurting even more from sweet dates touching them for instance.  WATER even makes my teeth hurt.  I was doing well with teeth health by brushing with toms natural toothpaste and using the ACT mouthwash they tell u to use at the dentist....but i didnt want to use that anymore cuz i guess your only supposed to need water ?....well....idk really what to think about this subject now that my teeth are hurting more and more everyday....and more cavities, decay is happening...i clench/grind my teeth terribly when i sleep, i wear a retainer and bite plane to prevent my teeth from getting eroded away....but im not sure this no toothpaste/mouthwash thing is helping my teeth...since it is making it worse.......what are other peoples experiences with this?  I went into stopping toothpaste and mouthwash with already extremely sensitive and cavity prone teeth from clenching them causing my gums to recede more.... any advice :( ?  now i have to get a filling put back on tomorrow, im in so much pain, water cant touch that tooth, and the max amount of novacane doesnt ever prevent me from feeling pain.

I tried butter lettuce for the first time tonight, and i must say, this is the first and only lettuce ive tried that i liked (almost) on its own.  i ate a whole head, and the only other then i put with the lettuce was chopped up red bell pepper (my most favorite salad topper :P ) I also got a big bag of organic red grapes today and had about a cup and a half of those, gotta make those babies last longer than a day, too dang pricey! My sleep schedule is of course still thrown off because i a on the vicious nap cycle that prevents me from getting to sleep at a reasonable hour when i actually NEED to sleep....i tried to force myself to stay awake today when i got home from work.....but i was just so exhausted.

Tomorrow i am not looking forward to the dentists bright an early....really one of my biggest fears.  Plus i had a mean one a few times, which adds to my dislike.

Goodnight Grapes :)

Re: Teeth

I honestly think that if you want to get off toothpaste, you need to do so gradually.  Fluoride is what is in regular toothpaste, and basically what it does is fill in your teeth where it can.  This may take care of some spaces, but it makes your teeth weaker because it isn't as good as the real stuff (ie. tooth).

but what happens when you just stop, you may find that because for so many years you have used fluoride as a crutch, you have more problems.  Your teeth now depend on the fluoride and other chemicals just to have a functioning mouth.

i am one of those people who has just always been prone to cavities, so i am speaking for this viewpoint.  but after 3.5 years of not using toothpaste, i ended up with acid erosion on many of my teeth that needed to be fixed.  i also still have my wisdom teeth, which are hard to keep clean as well.

anyway, what i think you should do is decrease the paste/mouthwash gradually and see how it goes.  perhaps switch to a non fluoridated paste and mix it up for a while.

keep us posted!

I've been following your blog and I know you have a hard time keeping enough ripe fruit in the house.  Eating unripe food sounds like it's catching up with you (teeth wise).  I know the ripe fruit thing is something you are working on, so I'm not trying to put you down.  I would honestly pick cooked starch or even cooked grain over unripe fruit if it ever came down to that.  Your teeth probably felt fine while you were using the Toms and ACT because the glycerin coats the teeth so it would have created a protective layer...which as others have already brought up also do not allow for the remineralization of the teeth.  So I'm not saying the glycerin layer is a good thing, just bringing it up as a point as to maybe why your teeth weren't bothering you when you were using it.

You've probably already seen this but in case you haven't Freelee started a convo with pictures of learning how to pick ripe fruit.  Bananas are easy - but other fruits can be much harder to tell if they are truly ripe.  The fruit I eat and love now I would have considered rotten and would have been repelled by in the past.  So anyway, if you haven't read through it yet here's the link.

Here's a vid of Fred Pat talking about brushing before you eat since it takes about up to a hour for the teeth to remineralize after eating acidic foods.

Something I do if I can when home if not I just rinse.

People get it, or they don't. I don't try to convinve people I'm right (even though I am LOL) I just tell 'em I'm right for me.

I used to have a boss who used to bust my chops daily about being a vegan. Finally I said to him "You know what strikes me funny? I choose to live a lifestyle thatis compassionate and results in the killing of no animals, and you chose a lifestyle based on killing and eating animals. And you're the one criticizing me?..." We never tlaked about it again.

Keep fightin' the good fight!

Yeah, teeth! First of all, some anecdotal reassurance - my teeth are awesome after almost 2 years of raw, very little greenery a lot of the time. DR, Freelea, Doug Graham, Fred Pat, all have teeth still. So, with that said:

Pre-existing issues can definitely get worse with all the fruit sugar in your mouth. Fred Pat has some good advice in Raw Food Controversies:

Brush after you eat
Floss regularly
He uses Toothsoap, which I haven't tried but certainly seems like it's worth a try, whatever you use make sure it's glycerin free. Glycerin interferes with teeth re-enameling.
Use an electric toothbrush (I just bought a Sonicare)

As far as dealing with people, I suggest breathing more and being really present in your body to start with. From there, it's easier to hear people even as they say THE CRAZIEST STUFF and not get triggered or 'caught off-guard.' People are probably going to ask you about protein forever. Now's your chance to start embracing it!

Also, please separate your writing into more paragraphs. I like your updates but you're really making me work here :).

One more thing is just chewing your greens like a gorilla for a few minutes to an hour. Your basically just mashing greens without eating them which is great for the teeth.

Perhaps, eating lettuce (->more minerals) is just the best you can do for your teeth?
