QUESTION! I crave salty foods in the evening. Am I not eating enough greens? I ask because I sure don't crave sweets but I eat LOADS of fruit. I crave chips and salsa or just chips. If I do give in I try to eat baked chips because they have less fat. I know this is still wrong. I would love to give them up for good. Any suggestions?

Comment by Julie S on October 8, 2012 at 2:41am I had this problem for a while. I ate cucumber slices with store-bought salsa for a couple of days and the cravings went away. I eventually switched from the store-bought salsa which had a bit of salt and a minimal amount of oil in it to homemade, salt-free salsa and now cucumber slices and salsa is my favorite snack. Also, eating three to six cucumbers with salsa is so much more satisfying than eating a handful of chips.

Yes, greens can make a big difference due to a higher sodium content than most fruits. I'd recommend shooting for at least a pound of tender leafies per day.
It can be quite a mouthful if you're not used to that much chewing volume, but it makes an easy drink with a couple of cups of grapes (my preferred green smoothie accompaniment).
Another thread you may appreciate in which chips feature:

Also, this is a very enjoyable recipe vid that might just lay your cravings to rest whenever they rear their naughty little heads. If you're looking to make it as healthy as possible, consider omitting the garlic and onion. Also you can switch chips to peeled jicama slices. Let me know if this helps :)
