30 Bananas a Day!

I had the summer off, but I'm back in school again. I can't seem to get in enough calories during the day anymore, and sometimes I don't drink as much water as I know I need to feel comfortable. Lately, it's been about lack of food around. The thing is, though, I just don't know what to get!! I'm going to be completly honest and admit that I've been discouraged lately. I have not fallen off the wagon or anything, and I never will, but I think a huge part in this is just that I don't know what to eat. Fruit should be plentiful right now, but it doesn't seem to be. I've been eating a lot of apples and bananas, but I'm getting bored of them. I need to mix it up, get some more variety so I don't get tired of this lifestyle. I've only been averaging between 1,200-1,800 calories a day... and 3/4 of those calories come from orange juice because I just don't know what to eat, but I'm starving!! I also haven't been getting my greens in, although I know that I should. I want to do this and I want to do it right! I've been dragging recently because I haven't been getting enough calories, but I think I need a little encouragement!

What can I do to fit in more calories? What should I eat so that I don't get bored of this awesome food?

@Brandon Schaefer It sounds like we're doing a lot of the same!! I hope you can keep enjoying the food and getting in as many calories as you need. I never really thought to add grape juice into a smoothie, but now I can't stop thinking about it... ha ha ha. Guess what I might be picking up at the store?! Good idea! What do you usually do for a salad, as far as what you put into it and what kind of dressing you use, if you use any at all? They have been tasting so yucky to me lately, which is awful, because I used to loooove salads!! Thank you for your advice and reaching out!! :)

@Lisa Dee I haven't gone into health stores recently, but I think I might start going to them. I was just thinking that last night! It can get expensive, but it's worth it at the end of the day when you have a full belly and you feel great. I do love cucumbers. I used to cut them up when I was little and put a little salt on them and eat 2-3 at a time. I should try that again, doing my best to skip the salt, of course. I eat dates on occasion... I like to make coconut date balls, a very good snack but gone so soon! Thank you so much for your input!!

Look farther afield for produce.  I find a lot at health food stores.  Check out the frozen fruit aisle in the supermarket to make into smoothies.  My safeway carries organic blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and non-organic peaches.  Freeze bananas and made ice cream - soooooo addictive.  Mix up the greens - romaine is so healthy but it's sometimes tough here - like eating a fern.  I've found butter lettuce which lives up to its name - like buttah!  A lot of people here use celery and cukes for their greens, I believe.  In wintertime, it is important to get a bit more creative.  I have purchased a lot of pears because they are in season even though I never liked pears in the past.  But now I'm about getting enough fruit fructose in my system - so I'm gonna try them again.

You didn't mention dates but you might want to start incorporating those as well.  Good luck!

I know how you feel, I recently started college again and between work and school, I haven't had a day off in weeks literally.. I was struggling a bit to get the good calories in as well. I'll try to give you some help as best as I can, and this is pretty much just what I've been doing. Usually my time is pretty limited so I make a lot of banana smoothies, with however many you want and some grape juice or whatever you fancy. Then you can drink it on the go or wherever. I find myself eating later at night because I didn't get enough calories during the day - so usually the last thing I eat is a big salad and it does the trick to fill me up, so definitely try to get a salad in at the end of the day if possible.

It's been harder to find watermelons around here, so that has thrown me off a bit, because I love them lol, so I know what you mean about fruit not being around. I've been eating a lot of bananas and apples too, and I was getting quite sick of bananas for a day or two - but I can tolerate them in smoothies! I would try to get whatever you love the most, strawberries - whatever it is, just to give you some variety, but still use bananas and such as your staple. I buy dates, strawberries, grapes and watermelon when possible. Oranges are good too, anything to give you variety, and just add a salad at the end of the day :) You can do it! Hope I helped, if even just a little!
