I went HCRV because I truly believed that it would heal my body from the damage I did to it, and the damage that the early years of eating SAD and not being all too active did. I believe that HCRV is not only the healthiest way for people to live, but that it is the kindest to the planet. I understand the fear of gaining weight, but this is supposed to be a forum that promotes HEALTH of body, mind, and spirit- not pleasing aesthetics. I take it personally when people say this is a "diet that isn't working" because they're misunderstanding completely what it is. It's a lifestyle based on compassion and awareness, from which you will happen to reap countless benefits- It is not just a band-aid for your belly.
One of the things that attracted me to 30BAD was the LACK of people complaining about every little dip and curve, every 2lb/1kg difference in their weight, etc. I find it alienating when every discussion is someone freaking out over a MINOR weight gain, or asking a hypothetical question for the sake of proving a moot point. It's juvenile. I know I haven't been a member long, but in the short time I have been here it seems like the site has been overrun by fad-dieters and people who understand NOTHING about nutrition, and aren't willing to listen to those with years of solid experience. Jeepers. I would really like to see more worthwhile discussions from the centered&balanced members of 30BAD. I will start one myself later. Cheers, truly fruity people!

Comment by AJ on April 20, 2012 at 5:08am Thanks so much, means a lot to me coming from a PK ;)

Comment by Jon Fergus on April 20, 2012 at 4:56am why aren't other members reading and following the rules??
This is one of those eternal questions ;P. Although, to take a page from The Matrix, in the words of Morpheus: "We all know that the reason most of us are here is because of our affinity for disobedience". Ok, maybe that's over stating it a bit, haha, but we are a community of people going against the grain of society, so I suspect there's probably a certain amount of aversion to authority built-in to each of us ;)
it's all the making mountains out of molehills that gets tiresome after seeing it for the 50th time.
I'm with you on the dismay, and the desire to see more members do their research and take advantage of all the wonderful material on 30BaD. My explanation of the peacekeepers was simply to address Rayla's concern, not from anything you said. So no worries there :)
Happy to see the way you and others are helping keep the vibe of 30BaD on track!
Comment by AJ on April 20, 2012 at 4:32am The reason for being dismayed at all the weight-gain posts is because they are not gaining FAT, they are gaining temporary WATER WEIGHT, and if they read through the welcome tour/previous discussions by other members as you are told to do upon joining 30BaD, their questions would have already been answered. it's all the making mountains out of molehills that gets tiresome after seeing it for the 50th time.
@jon- sorry if i came across as saying that the PK's aren't doing their jobs! i have seen them respond very thoroughly in numerous forums and definitely appreciate that. i was more asking, why aren't other members reading and following the rules??
it's good to question things- that's why you should always do your research!

This has been done/tried several times by several individuals. There's even a specific group for weight loss concerns:
http://www.30bananasaday.com/group/lfrvweightloss
The most recent incarnation of a thread addressing these things is by Tarah Shannon:
http://www.30bananasaday.com/forum/topics/i-ve-gained-20lbs-i-can-t...
Thing about Freelee and Harley is that they've already put out dozens of videos addressing weight issues, have commented on hundreds of such posts, and are engaged daily with these types of concerns. In addition, our PKs have put together an extensive welcome tour and FAQs that address these issues.
Two things most newcomers never do:
1) read through the welcome tour, use the search function or browse through the forum before posting
2) familiarize themselves with all the site has to offer. 30BaD is an extensive website, with tonnes of groups, blogs, videos, projects, etc., etc. :)
But overall, most people want to ask their questions and feel communicated with, much more than they want to read through 30BaD's content. The positive part of that is we all get to know each other and get to feel more like a community with all members. The negative part is that so many people miss out on the amazing advice already available on the site, and those trying to help must answer the same questions repetitively.
Comment by dolphingrl on April 19, 2012 at 8:53am A lot of people are NEW to this and still learning and I think that people should be more understanding and less judgmental of that fact, its common and normal for people to have those concerns when starting this, its a place to learn though so I don't understand why people complain about OTHER peoples fears/ concerns/ misunderstandings...its is a SUPPORT forum after all.
Don't forget that a lot of these people have disordered eating backgrounds, it shouldn't offend you personally.
Comment by Sara Zaine on April 19, 2012 at 8:47am *forum topic, rather
Comment by Sara Zaine on April 19, 2012 at 8:44am perhaps harley and freelea should start a new thread/topic (whatever it is) called "OMG I just started 811 and I'm gaining weight!!!" or something like that, so that newbies can go there to ask about their (legitimately frightening seeming) weight gain issues, and get advice/responses from more "advanced" 811ers who actually want to help them out. then the people who don't want to see those discussions don't have to, and the new people get their concerns addressed with out being screamed at :P it's a win win!!!
so harely/freelea... new thread: "OMG I just started 811 and I'm GAINING WEIGHT!!!"
Comment by Jon Fergus on April 19, 2012 at 5:38am @Rayla:
If a member is giving 'advice' that goes against the guidelines, even if in private messages on 30BaD, please feel free to contact any PK through a private message, so that we may address the issue.
maybe there are too many members now to "police" the site??
Nah... we got a handle on it. :) There's a continuous presence of PKs on the site, all of whom are highly dedicated to maintaining the high vibe of the website. One thing to understand is that there's a cyclic tendency of the 'omg I'm fat' type of discussions, and for a month or two they may dominate, but then they naturally subside... like a regular ebb and flow. The high-point of these kinds of discussions naturally occurs after new years and into the spring (hmm... wonder why that is? ;P). I've learned to go with this ebb and flow.
Overall, our intention as PKs isn't to be police, hence the name peacekeepers. We want the community to thrive and I think we all know that a true sense of community cannot be enforced from outside... there is onus on the members to themselves embody the principles of community. Thus we try to provide freedom for members to do this, and take a variety of actions as PKs only when we deem it truly necessary.
