A Point for Exploration

Today I got to go to some new stores to check out their possibly odd and certainly new produce! I went down to the Asian market in my area of Houston in search of dragonfruit. I'd seen some there the last time I was hunting in the produce section and didn't pick any up, but after reading Freelee's post on how to choose ripe fruit, I felt like I had the power to confidently pick good dragonfruits. Sadly, though, they didn't have any (BOOOO!), so instead I picked up a sweet papaya, some honey tangerines, and some sapotes (although I'm not quite sure what to do with these yet). Next I went to the local Fiesta (super cheap grocery chain surprisingly known for their variety of produce) and picked up a TON of stuff: blood oranges (sooo yummy!), minneola tangelos, clementines, grapefruit, some cuke-a-sauruses (though, again, I'm not sure what to do with them), a breadfruit, pablano peppers (my fave!), regular-type mangoes, atualfo mangoes, bananas (of course), and, to top it all off, a big-ace watermelon. My kitchen counter looks like a fruit stand! 

The best part was making myself a HUGE green salad tonight and, instead of using dressing, I cut open one of the tangelos and just squeezed the WHOLE THING right over the salad, then pulled the pulp out as a topping. INSTANT SALAD DRESSING, YA'LL!! It was so sweet and juicy that I didn't even miss "regular" dressing. I had to have a tangelo by itself for my "dessert" too. That's how good they were! I'm thinking about going back for more in a little while, too. Gotta eat them calories!

All in all, today was a good fruit day. I'M SO EXCITED!!!
