Today was a long day.
My baby girl is still sick with a cold, and she didn't get much sleep last night due to congestion. That means mama didn't get much sleep last night either. She's steadily getting better though, so hopefully we'll all sleep a little better tonight.
My mom is coming to visit tomorrow. She lives almost 4 hours away, so we don't get to see her very often. Every time she visits with us, I secretly hope that our way of eating will rub off on her a little bit. She comes from a background of anorexia and bulimia, and she's always on some kind of diet. She was big on Atkins when it was first popular, and the carb restricting has stuck around. She's finally starting to eat fruit, but nowhere near enough. She probably eats 1500 calories per day on average, but definitely binges on fats (oils on salad dressing, cheese, meat) once a day or so. She works out a lot, so she keeps her weight down, but I just wish she'd understand how healthy she can actually be if she would go vegan. I don't push my beliefs down her throat, though...I think we all need to choose our own paths.
Anyway, today we discovered the yumminess that is baby bok choy! It's really cheap at our local Asian market, only $2.69 for about 5 little heads of it. I think we'll be getting it more often because it really added some extra oomph to our evening salads.
Water: I didn't drink as much water as I would have liked to today. I did have about 2 quarts, but most of that was in dateorade, which I don't really think counts because dates are dehydrating.
Exercise: I walked/ran for 15 minutes at the gym today, then did a round on the circuit machines. Had an incident there in which one of the managers asked me to stop changing my baby in the waiting room (her first reason was for my baby's privacy, then when that didn't work with me {seriously? baby's privacy? she's a baby!}, she said it was for sanitation purposes)...apparently members had been complaining. Anyway, it was embarrassing and awkward. I don't want to change her in the nursery because it's either full of children who may or may not be sick, or the TV is on in there, or it smells horribly of Pine Sol. I dunno...it makes me not want to go back, but I know I need the exercise and it's really hot outside. We'll see.
Lifestyle: I wish I would have spent more time outside with baby girl today. We did get a lot of house work done, which makes me feel better...especially since my mom is coming to visit tomorrow. Didn't get to read The China Study, though.
Food!!
Breakfast: 9 bananas, 1.5 cups grape juice blended up in a smoothie!
Lunch: 50 Khadrawi dates, 1 cup frozen strawberries, made into dateorade
Dinner: 1 large head romaine lettuce, 1 head baby bok choi, 1 large beefsteak tomato, a carrot, a stick of celery, half a small avocado, the juice of 1 lemon, dried oregano. YUM!!
And on that note, I'm off to bed. These early nights have really been helping me feel better in the mornings. :)

Comment by Greenmama on May 19, 2012 at 1:40am Eye rollllllll... Let's get out of this country with it's sex-crazed, sue-crazy, germophobic, baby-hating culture. Sorry for the rant, but it's just obnoxious how uptight everyone is about how you're "supposed to" raise children. On a verrrrry short leash. But go ahead and feed them junk food; it's an important part of making them happy.
Hey, you're doing awesome! And I love that you and your hubby are doing this together. So neat-o.
Comment by Grayson on May 18, 2012 at 1:32pm I know what it's like! I'm trying to set a good example for my family too, keep up the good work. Family and friends will get it in due time :)
