Daily Thoughts
In the evening, I got that old cooked food fear feeling... it's an old fear... "Can I give up the heavy feeling of beans and rice and the taste of salt forever?" I had already eaten 4300 calories and was not hungry, just fearful. Then I remembered that I didn't have to give it up "forever" but I could skip it just for today.
I read DR say that he can retain 12 pounds of water just from eating salt. That really motivated me. How nice would it be not to be carrying around all this extra water and not to have such a puffy face in the morning?
For those of you that missed it yesterday, I am going to do updated pictures and a summary post when I hit 60 days soon. Does anybody have any questions that they would like me to answer? I have a couple from Grape Nut, thanks!

Comment by Greenmama on April 27, 2012 at 12:47am Ben, I caved to the beans on Day 3. I will try to work the celery today.
Karmyn, I laughed and laughed. Thank you. Guilty of fruit abuse! The thing is, I only had a few dates, and I don't like bananas much. But I can flavor a bunch of cheap bananas with a few expensive and DELICIOUS dates, and then I enjoy my meal. Barhis are also my favorite date of all time (so far anyway), but Black Sphinx are a close second. Hope you enjoy them.
Thanks to all for your encouraging comments.

Comment by Karmyn on April 26, 2012 at 8:31am Dear Greenmama,
I have a question--why are you blending Black Sphinx dates with bananas? Those dates taste too AMAZING on their own to be subjected to such treatment, lol!
Roger wrote a really funny e-mail about this that I think you'd enjoy:
Does FRUIT ABUSE make you cringe?
A while back my witty wifey Karmyn came up with an interesting term.
She called it "fruit abuse."
And I must say I had to agree with her.
So what's this fruit abuse?
It's when raw foodists or anyone actually, takes a divinely delicious fruit and ruins it by making a recipe out of it.
We've seen this repeatedly at potlucks and even at raw food restaurants.
While we do enjoy making recipes, sometimes the fruit is so incredibly tasty on its own that putting it into a recipe is plain abusive.
Sometimes you just can't improve on nature.
I'll give you an example.
We had a nanny living with us who decided to take the fresh and heavenly tasting bahri dates and blend them with bananas to make a smoothie.
That's just WRONG!
Karmyn almost flipped when she saw that.
Those dates just taste like the most incredible dessert. By blending them with bananas you can no longer taste how amazingly delicious they are anymore. Better to use dried up and older medjool dates if you must blend dates in a smoothie.
If you haven't tried fresh bahri dates then make sure you do.
You can try getting a wet pack from the Date People when they're in season. Just Heavenly.
Or what about durian pudding?
Are you friggin kidding me?
Why mess with nature when nature created perfection in flavor. I don't want to eat any stinking durian pudding.
What a waste of deliciously divine durian.
Or what about mamey puddings?
They always taste worse to me than just eating a plain mamey all by itself.
Personally, I make smoothies with frozen blueberries and bananas just about every day of the week.
But when blueberry season would come around in New Jersey I would never dream of blending them in my smoothies.
They were so incredible on their own that it would have constituted 2nd degree fruit abuse and I could have been put in the slammer by the fruit authority police for doing that.
So do your taste buds a favor and keep yourself out of the fruit dungeon.
No more fruit abuse pllleease!
Well, I hope you enjoyed this fun little email. :-)
While Karmyn and I personally detest fruit abuse we won't hold it against you.
Just don't let us see you do it in person.
Cheers,
Roger Haeske
The 44-Year Old Teenager
All jokes aside you can blend whatever fruit you want with your bananas (except Black Sphinx or Barhi dates, lol). ;)
Aloha,
Karmyn
P.S. Thanks again for giving me the info on how to procure more Black Sphinx Dates!
P.P.S. Congratulations on Day 2 eating 100% raw! :)
Comment by Iron Clad Ben on April 26, 2012 at 4:51am Ahhh yes, the "not wanting to give up rice and beans" fear. That was my last cooked food to give up too. The texture can be very satisfying and along with salty/spicy sauce it is definitely is addictive. I think giving it up temporarily and seeing the benefits of it is a great approach, keep going with that :o) Sounds like your body may be already detoxing some of that stuff out. When you take a long enough of a break (maybe 1-2 weeks?), and you go back and eat rice and beans it will feel like a brick in your stomach. Then you will be forced to ask yourself if it is still worth it (it may or may not be). I see you are eating celery mid-day, personally I found that the most effective way of preventing dinner time salt cravings, keep it up!
Comment by Jessie James on April 26, 2012 at 1:04am I am finally winning the battle with salt. I started by first cutting back. I used to use bottles pasta sauces and dressings for my salads and raw zuccni. I would buy the ones with the lowest amount of sodium and fat. Since then my taste buds have changed and the the prepared stuff is starting to turn my stomach. I can't enjoy salt and fat free fresh 811 sauces 100% yet but they taste better than when I started.
