Ok so it's been about three months being vegan. I finally finished reading the 80/10/10 book and started using the chronometer. I have great health benefits so far. However I have been having a few problems lately sticking to an all raw 80/10/10 diet.
Recently my diet is all fruit for breakfast, a half fruit lunch and cooked meal, a fruit snack and a half fruit half cooked meal dinner.
Here are the problems I am encountering:
1. When I start a day with all fruit, I am running to the bathroom at least every two hours. Now this is a problem at work as my office is about four offices, a kitchen and a whole company office away from the bathroom. I literally can't hold it for long and it is a problem when clients are calling on the phone and want long conference calls and I am training employees and have to rush off to pee. My only solution so far is to not have all fruit for lunch. Any suggestions?
2. I train a lot, and hopefully will complete a triathalon soon. I swim 2-3km a day for three days a week and am really draining in energy. I am 5'2 and about 106 lbs. Is 3000 calories enough? I really can't hydrate during my swim times so any suggestions to stay hydrated will help. I also do about 24km a week in running and 90 minutes of yoga.
I am running a 5k at the end of this month followed by a 2km open water swim. I really want to increase my speed and set a good example as a vegan athlete, any pre race would be welcome.

Comment by sirgeoh on May 15, 2011 at 9:42am Well, as for how long to take it I am not sure. I would imagine until you feel regulated. That being said, I agree with the other post in that every two hours might be normal. I think thats how much I go but I drink like 14glasses of water a day.
Rachel, thats awesome those numbers you came up with. Can you do me next?!
: )

Comment by Rachel Ward on May 15, 2011 at 9:36am I did some math for you so you could see where you are. You might want to measure your food to make sure your fat/protein ratios are good as well as your overall calories. Also, this does not take into account lots of exercise. This is simply to maintain your current body weight. That means since you train a lot, you will actually have to eat MORE.
First, the summary results, then how I got the answers, OK? All numbers are rounded up or down.
Your weight in kilos: 48.1 (rounded up)
MINIMUM CALORIES PER DAY: 2405
CARBS: 481 grams per day (1924 calories)
FAT: 27 grams per day (241 calories)
PROTEIN: 60 grams per day (241 calories)
Here are my sums:
106 pounds = 48.1 kilos (rounded up)
10 grams carbs per kilo
481 grams of carbs per day for your weight
4 calories per gram of carbs
4 x 481 = 1924 calories from carbs per day
Now to calculate OVERALL calories you need and the fat/protein
80% of calories from carbs
1924 calories is 80% of: 2405 overall calories
Fat calories (10% of 2405): 241 (rounded up)
9 calories per gram of fat
241 / 9 = 27 grams of fat (rounded up)
Protein calories (10% of 2405) 241 (rounded up)
4 calories per gram of protein
241 / 4 = 60 grams of protein (rounded down)
I hope this helps! :)

Comment by Windlord on May 14, 2011 at 5:03pm A healthy urination count is about 10-12 times daily.
Try keeping a log (just some lil check marks tallied at day's end will do) for some definitive evidence. Then you'll have some knowledge on which to go :)

Comment by sirgeoh on May 14, 2011 at 3:52pm Karen, as for problem one the main issue with this diet is breaking down all the sugar. As soon as I started taking Gymnema and Chromium it solved about 98% of my issue (I had lots of bubbles in my urine). You may also want to look into strenghtening the kidneys.
#2 Have you tried coconut water? Or water with electrolytes. I do believe distilled water is the best but you are doing some vigorous work and you might need a boost. That being said, if your body is not absorbing fluids effectively then #1 could be effecting #2
Good luck!
