I have decided to go to Mysore with Sarah and Kirpal this summer. I'm going in September. Were you already a fruity when you lived there before? What can I expect fruit-wise? I'm a little nervous, as I am told it won't be mango season. But Sarah says there are lots of coconuts! I love coconut water so much, I will probably be happy with just that if there are also some bananas around :)
Durianwriter said… Hi Maia,
I am very happy to find an experienced ashtangi who likes raw food and veganism :) As much as I love and respect Kevin, I feel like there is a gap in perspectives that makes it difficult for me to ask questions and feel like he understands. The cheese-meat-beer consuming bothers me for some reason. I know that I should not hold Kevin to stereotypical expectations of yogis, but it does make me feel somewhat disoriented or confused that someone who seems so knowledgeable about so many other things would be eating things that seem to be so unhelpful...especially beer...
What is the name of your blog? I don't see it listed on your profile.
Looking forward to your thoughts on raw food and yoga.

Funny...Kevin actually told the "no bones" story today in class! He said you could bind your hands behind you back and wrap them around your belly button at breakfast... :)
How did you come to raw foods? Kevin is pretty anti-raw food, also anti-vegan/vegetarian for that matter. Today Kevin was talking about diet a little, and he said at the Shala in mysore some guy came and tried to convert everyone to raw food, and that all those people had terrible flatulence and bad practice. What is your take on raw food? Obviously you are more open to it than Kevin, seeing that you are a member of this site :)

Kevin says hello, are you Maia Papaya or No Bones Maia? He is glad to hear from either one of you. :)

Yes I study with Kevin! He is a super amazing teacher and I feel so blessed to have found Ashtanga yoga. Thank you for the comment, that totally clears things up for me. I have been wanting to eat more avocados than usual, maybe in response to the more intense practice. I have been experiencing a lot of tapas recently and it is really intense and uncomfortable!! I would love to hear any advice you have on eating this way and practicing Ashtanga.
See you at Woodstock!
