open fireplaces - bad for your health?

It is probably not surprising that I like many here try to do my best to live as environmentally aware as possible, so when i had to choose how to heat my place during winter I was stoked that there was an open fireplace to use. I boosted about how i never turned on an electric heater all winter. But I started to notice how something was making me feel not too great, at first I ignored it then noticed that it happened each time I started the fire, so i did some research and found that the smoke…See More

Volunteering in Asia

I was wondering if anyone here has volunteered overseas. I have done some internet searches, but have only come up with expensive options. I am happy to contribute money to communities, but really don't want to spend $ contributing to marketing and administration costs. I would like to find a genuine program where I can do meaningful work whilst living somewhere with easy access to lots of fruit.See More

Fasting clinics in Australia

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has done a supervised fast in Australia? I am looking for a reputable and safe clinic to undertake fast. After hearing some horror stories overseas, I am hoping to get some first-hand (or even second-hand) reviews.

Hi K2. I have studied a lot of gender studies, and I would probably align myself with radical feminism, though I do think they oversimplify some things a bit. I haven't really had much to do with the feminist groups in Melbourne. This is mainly because I don't really have very much time, but also because I am sort of going through a period of spiritual and emotional growth and don't like to align myself with negativity or anger. As a result I find it challenging to spend time with activist vegan groups or feminists. I know that's sort of a controversial thing to say but that's just the way I feel right now. How did you get into feminism?

Hi Melbourne 811er!

The Melbourne community is about to transfer to a brand new Group on 30BAD. Why? We have had a few website issues with the current group, and the easiest way to fix this is to start afresh.

The existing Melbourne 811 Group is due to removed over the coming days. Thank you for your understanding, and we intend to get things rolling as quickly as possible!

Please join us at: http://www.30bananasaday.com/group/811-melbournians - for all things 811 in Melbourne.

See you there!

Thanks for the comment! I just got back from a week in Melbourne and can't wait to go back. My friend lives in a warehouse filled with people from the circus, its awesome! There's always so much happening down there. Cheap flights are always coming up so I go as often as Uni allows =D

Hey kt2!

I totally agree with fruit being able to take your holiday from good to totally amazing... The tropical fruit i ate was just amazing... And you are closer to Thailand over there than I am over here I think?? Have you ever been? In any case, if i were you, i would seriously start thinking about having a holiday there... From what i hear it is really cheap/affordable ( hotels, fruit etc... ) once you get there...

Wow, cool that Custard Apple season lasts so long.. I know what you mean about paying close attention to all the different varieties... this year was the first year i started to get a handle on the different orange varieties and how they are differ from one another! I guess the longer one eats this way , the better we get at it!

Custard Apples sound like a great way to beat the winter blues!! I hope that you get plenty and that they get sweeter and sweeter as the season goes along... We are building up to summer here... It is already quite hot and it is only May! Looking forward to amazing grapes and cherries and have already had quite good watermelon ( though it is still a little early for the really good ones... )

and yes, it is far easier from all aspects to travel to various places in Europe from here rather than plan, pay for and organise a trip to Australia... That having been said i am still going to definitely come sometime and it would be great to meet you!

Stay well...

Warm Wishes,

Xenia
