Just spent two days checking out the raw food scene in Tokyo finding the the hope and the glowing fresh juices under all the yakitori, takoyaki and other dishes was a challenge but a delightful one.
Had two three course meals consisting of a raw soup, main, and dessert and a drink.Planning on creating a page to share the info for others moving to Japan.
Then finished the weekend with a delightful potluck meeting other living food lovers.
This was a delight and met some…

hello everyone,
I have now been raw in Japan for 2 and a half months. I am learning new ways of doing raw here everyday. i have found a local supplier I can buy in bulk from and online stores which are so useful.
With snow last night the fruit is not magnificent at this time of year. However I bought a ticket to Thailand for Christmas new year holiday and that is going to be magnificent.
I cant wait

Fukuda Kaori said… Hi, Katie! Thank you for joining 811 Japan.
Are you coming to Tokyo? I live in Saitama and working in Tokyo. If you are interested in Vege Festa on 20 $ 21 October, We can get there together!
reigen said… Hi katie,
By the way I'm a member of this site;
http://www.meetup.com/Tokyo-Raw-Food-Love-Veggies-Meetup-Group/
and they are having an all-raw-food potluck party on 21st Oct. I haven't RSVPed yet, but I think I'm going. This group may as well go to VegeFood Festa, so you may enjoy both 20th and 21st in Tokyo.
Also, Ben and Reyna of this group should know better about how to buy fresh produce in bulk, so you may want to contact them. They are more than happy to help.
Hope it helps.
Cheers,
Reigen

reigen said… Hi katie,
> Do you know the date of the vegan festival this year?
Do you mean there is another one except the one you were talking about "Tokyo VegeFesta" which takes place on 20th and 21st October as I wrote earlier... I think you lost me.
> Also in answer to your questions about 80/10/10 I am 100 percent raw and I find my energy is a lot more than when I am only half raw .
I'm not sure if I have asked you such a question, but OK, I see.
On the contrary, I'm not 100 raw and I tend to eat a cooked meal for dinner. But I still can run 20km easy so my energy level shouldn't be all that bad.
Cheers,
Reigen
reigen said… Hi katie,
I was going to go, but the situation has changed (my colleague is leaving this month and no one can replace but me...) and now I don't think I can...
As far as that goes, I can't really go anywhere any longer than "just over a weekend", really...
Taiwan in winter... well, the variety of fruits available may be less, but still it'll be so much better than all seasons put together in Japan. Enjoy!

reigen said… Hi katie,
> I am in Joetsu city . Do you know it in Niigata prefecture?
I sometimes go to Niigata station to visit my client, so Joetsu... I just go past it on Shinkansen... Great place for skiing and stuff, right?
> I think I will come to tokyo maybe for the vegan festival do you know when it is I looked at the website but i am not sure it is saying the correct date
It's 20th and 21st October at Yoyogi Park.
> were you thinking about going at all?
Yes, I think I'm going.
> Also was going to ask you if you can recommend any good sites for ordering fruit in bulk at all? I have not been able to find kale ! and I am missing it. Also dates ;)
I have bought bananas in bulk before from several online shops and here are some links. Also google "バナナ 13kg" and you'll get more, I think.
non organic 13kg@2,500 yen

* They do other fruits as well. Click on the pictures.

Kale... I don't really know, but here are a few that I have found.

http://www.tohoku-bokujo.co.jp/shopping/single_vegetable/hamono_kale.html
organic 3kg@2,835 yen or 5kg@4,305 yen

And dates...
organic 1kg@1,320 yen

There should be more shops if you really look for them, but these are what I have found through a quick search.
Hope it helps,
