Wazzou said… Hey Alex,
Thanks for the emails and links to the BBC video and websites. Man, you're giving me some information that I have not thought much about, which is good.
So I have a few questions for you. At the time of your J-pouch surgery you were only 70lbs? You were in the hospital for 1 year? That's insane! How did you survive that? So you had an ostomy for 2 years then the J-pouch, but it only got you back up to 120lbs? But now you are up to 170lbs on a raw 80/10/10 diet? That is amazing, and now that I know that information I can see why you don't want to eat any other way.
So your last message said no diarrhea since the fruit diet. How long did it take to clear that up? How long did it take to begin gaining weight? Do you have formed bowel movements on a regular basis now?
You are saying that prebiotic foods might help with pouchitis. This is the first time I have heard of this. The focus is always on probiotic supplements, yogurt, kefir & fermented veggies. Thanks for the video, that study of yogurt vs. prebiotic foods was interesting. I avoid garlic, onions, artichoke, leeks & asparagus. I have been sensitive to all of those in allergy testing in the past. Those are all Fodmap foods. They are supposed to be difficult to digest for those with IBS. Do you eat those prebiotic foods on your mostly fruit diet?
So how long do you think it might take to calm down the loose stools and begin gaining weight? How many calories do you shoot for each day? Can you tell me how you recommend eating for the first 3 - 5 days on this diet? What is your typical diet for like 3 days?
Thank you Alex,
Mike
