Fruit Adventure in the Southwest

So my first experience with "non-traditional" fruit (traditional = apples, bananas, pears and oranges), was not nearly as tasty as I planned, so I do believe I have some practicing to do!  Last week a friend and I adventured to an Asian market where we found some unique fruits and I picked up some strange bananas, longan, tamarind, persimmon, and frozen durian, all of which I've never had before. While I was there, I just wanted to grab a little bit of everything I've never tried before. Well…See More

My Articles on Associated Content

I've decided that one way to help me stick to the LFRV lifestyle is to write about it, because if I promote it, then I look like a tool if I'm doing something different.  So I started an account with associated content because there are articles on there about raw food, but not LFRV and I thought this would be a good place to start getting more information out. I've already gotten two articles published on there about LFRV and I have so many more ideas. I do want to thank my friends here at…See More

Airing my Dirty Laundry

I did so well on LFRV for the first 3-4 weeks and now I've spun out of control. I've been binge eating. The kind where I somehow get it in my head that I should eat something, and it won't go away until I finally get that food and make myself sick with it. Except that because I mostly eat LFRV the binging non-lfrv makes me much more sick than it did before. I've never vomited after binge eating before, but I have come really close a few times recently. But still somehow, I'm out of control and…See More

I've been battling weight my entire life, and up till about 6 years ago, I lived on hotdogs, Hamburger Helper, and McDonalds types of foods. I kept getting fatter and fatter, but because so many people I knew ate the way I did, I didn't understand what was happening to me. So, I had the typical mentality and said "I know, I'll eat a low fat diet"

I started buying boneless skinless chicken breasts, ground turkey, and frozen vegetables. I didn't really know how to prepare any fresh ones. Then the life changing experience happened for me. These chicken breasts I bought tasted really strange, so went looking for the expiration on the package to see if they were bad. The only weird thing I found was the sentence "Chicken with Breast meat"

I wondered what that was, and so I turned to Google for an answer. The answer was so disgusting that I immediately stopped eating any "chicken with breast meat." Then I was hooked on learning about my food. I picked a vegetable every day and learned about it's healthy properties, and as I was eating salad instead of a burger I would say to myself "this is medicine for my heart" or "This will help my asthma."

After a year of this, and lots of my own research and reading, I became a vegetarian. I still thought vegans were crazy though. But I kept researching and researching, and I began learning about the animal issues, political issues, and false health claims even in the dairy industries. I became more open minded toward a vegan lifestyle, but I had no idea how to actually do it, and I don't know anyone that's a vegetarian, let alone a vegan.

I was walking through Whole Foods one day and picked up Ani Phyo's Raw Food Kitchen. I remember thinking it was really extreme at the time, but I have come to love it as one of my favorite cookbooks. I have several more now. This also changed me.

I have spent the last year researching the raw food lifestyle, and the more I learn and look at the big picture, the more I realize that it makes perfect sense. It's so simple and perfect and aligned with the way that every other species eats on the planet: by turning to nature. I started to think about how other species aren't plagued with disease like us, and how no other animals cook their foods, and no other animals count calories, or eat the lactation of another animal, and realized it's the other way around. It makes no sense that humans would need any of those things if the millions of other species on the planet don't need them either!

So I have been battling with the regular struggles of food addiction. I'm an emotional eater, I like to drink and party on the weekends, and in those types of social situations, my raw food philosophies get thrown out the window because no one I know supports me. So I went looking for my own support out here on the web and found 30BaD after watching several of Durianrider's videos on YouTube.

I'm really looking forward to learning the tricks of the trade. How to stick with it and over come food addictions and social situations where there's pressure to eat poor food choices. I like that 30BaD advocates a simple raw food lifestyle rather than lots of difficult-to-make gourmet raw food recipes, and I'm looking forward to what I can learn from the members here. I have some where around the ball park of 70 pounds to lose, and I know this is the way. I have already lost 15 eating so much raw food despite my outbursts of junk food binging. When I eat raw I feel so healthy, vibrant, and content. I can tell my natural instincts are being satisfied now. I'm learning to listen to my body, and I love it. But I know this journal will be hard to make alone, so I'm here!

My favorite book is the Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, for sure. I don't watch much on the TV, but I do like LOST, and Firefly a whole lot. I'm a graphic and web designer for a living and I absolutely love what I do. I like creating art and letting my inner thoughts guide me along the way. I also enjoy education and learning, and I'm always trying to find new stuff to learn about.

I am a busy mom and wife, I work full time, I'm going to school full time, and I need help to figure out how to reach my dietary goals despite a limited budget on both money and time. I am very good on my own and I don't slip into the cooked food world ever, but I almost never make it through social situations, and then it's a mess for days. I'm trying to find my confidence to stick to my food beliefs, and actually stick to them! So I need support, and lots of tips from people who have made it past this part.

This is just a bit of a gripe, but I have to say it out loud somewhere. I was watching some of Harley's videos on YouTube for inspiration, and I decided to look at what the opposition was saying, so I watched a few of those videos. Their biggest argument against a LFRV diet appears to be that the body of a LFRV person is too thin, or that they can't bulk up and have muscles that are like 3 feet in diameter hanging off their arms.

Why doesn't it occur to any of them that…

Seeking Variety

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 4:58am 3 Comments

I feel that my diet has reached this awkward place. I haven't been a perfect LFRV largely because I get bored with my options, but I can't go back to the way I was either, because I just feel so bad that I have to stop. Certain foods literally make me feel like vomiting. I'm running into a problem with variety I think.

It seems like apples and pears are everywhere, and I finally decided to stop my delivery service because I was getting too many apples and pears, and I just…

Hi Reese. Thanks for commenting on my blog post, "Pizza? A Vegetable?" You are right about opting for home schooling before you let your child eat what they serve there. I can never understand why parents don't choose this option more rather than just put up with the system the way it is. We must do whatever it takes for the best and highest for our children. That's what good and selfless parents do.

Phx Tropicals could be a great resource then; pls let us know.

I've never looked into the local date farms; though I did have the pleasure of helping to pollinate a date forest at ASU polytech a couple years ago.

I have seen some cute little colorful building somewhere in town that advertises itself as having to do with dates.

Even if Sphinx usually sells as gifts, they might put together a special bulk package for you if you talked to management.  I've had them both firm and dry and fantastically gooey.  Not sure what their growing practices are though.

Even if they are fully satisfactory, still compare price with Bautista.  Their absolute best deal is 100# for 2.50#!!!  Less than that, it's 3.00, which is still superior to most other brands, especially given their quality.

Yep, the Asian stores can offer unique items, though of sometimes dubious quality.  I've seen nearly black rambutans for instance :)

Still, well worth a look.  Ever been to Asiana on 43rd Ave and Union hills?

Nope, I just sent the test message to ensure that your PMer was working at all.

I wish I could say why you didn't receive the group CC's, but I'm at a loss.

All the most reason to check in regularly then, to ensure you're in the loop :)

You're welcome to drop by anything on Sat the 12th.  Weather permitting, I'm sure we'll be there a few hours.  And you're welcome to bring any munchkins with you if you like.  There's a nice playground right next to the park section I described.

Now you've got me curious as to why you didn't receive the PM's.  I sent out two CC'ed to the entire Viva group.  Some folks obviously got them.  You might try looking around the group page (check around the section where all our pics are grouped) for some email enable function.

Just as a test I'm going to send you a PM right now.  Let me know what happens.

Enjoy the B-Day party and I hope to see you soon! :)

Hello, Teresa! (-: I have really enjoyed reading about your recent experiences. The shift to LFRV is a lot more than merely saying, "Alright, I'll guess I'll just eat fruit and salad from now on," but for me, the process has been totally worth it too. We both live in Phoenix so I am wondering if we can be friends! I love sharing this lifestyle with other people! Let me know if you want to meet up an do something fun.

You are so terrific!

Sincerely, Phoenix
