Jon Fergus said… Oils and salt are the crutch of a lot of vegans trying to take that big step to HCRV. The only real answer is simply to drop them. Weaning ourselves off rarely works. But, I understand what you're saying and where you're at; it's really why we have a forum here - we all need support, particularly in the beginning. After a while on HCRV (doing it right), I never crave salts or oily stuff anymore. Last time I tried some I felt horrible afterwards. My body was like: "dude! What the hell!? You can't just eat optimally, then suddenly throw that crap at me!" ;)
The program here (the method DR and Freelee and others have developed over time) is the best, quickest and surest way to adopt HCRV in a sustainable way, imho. So, delve in, read posts, scour the welcome wagon, and get started. :)
When you have questions or need some support, we're always here!
p.s. to remove the memory-entanglements, just draw up the memories in your mind, hold them there, and see that it wasn't the food that made the memory; it was the company. Shift the focus away from the food element, back towards the human element. Then, the association between the event and the food will begin to dissolve. Give it a try :)
Jon Fergus said… Hi Stephanie. Welcome to 30BaD! Hope we can help you get on the raw train for good!
You sent a message to the members of the cooked group, and I just wanted to encourage you to post either a comment there or a discussion, since then other members can more easily reply :)
And, wanted to mention one thing. You said: "But damn... Those potato chips, fries, Mexican, Italian...". All of these foods would be high fat. Far higher than the 80/10/10 ratio. So, what you felt when you went raw was likely also an effect of lessening your fat intake. It's really the oils that getcha! 100% fat and very calorie dense! This is why we recommend, that if you do eat cooked food, to steam it or cook it without oils. Keep that fat down :)
Two tips:
1. track intake with cronometer (figure out exactly what your ratios are)
2. check out our welcome wagon, for tonnes of tips on how to go and stay raw! :)
