I've heard that pretty much all fruit imported from other countries to the US is irridated to kill bugs and extend shelf life. I have also heard that once its irridated it doesn't really ripen properly.I live in an area with cold winters, so literally ALL the fruit I have access to right now, especially the juicy tropical fruits and melons that I think are best (besides some frozen local Door County cherries I found) is from somewhere else. Frozen vs. rehydrated dried fruit?

I have been having trouble finding ripe fruit in my area, now that it's winter. Fruit that isn't ripe or is force-ripened really doesn't agree with my stomach.So, I'm wondering--which do you guys think is better, frozen fruit or (soaked/rehydrated) dried fruit?Any tips for getting ripe oranges during the winter? Every place I've found online has been too pricey...like $40 for 10lbs. See More

Sourcing fruit in a cold climate

I live in WI (in the US), and our winters here are long and cold. :-( I am having trouble finding quality fruit that is ripe and good tasting. What are your feelings about eating prefrozen berries? I can get a good quality brand of a variety of different berries from the store, that are very juicy and taste very good. But because they are frozen, do they lose a lot of nutrients?I'd love to have access to fresh local fruit, but nothing grows around here in the winter!!! :-( See More

I have some autoimmune health problems that I am healing from, and have found that just eating raw for a few weeks now has helped immensly.
