Are dates any good this late in the season?

Started May 9, 2012 0 Replies

I emailed one date farm, which only has zahidi's left, and another has kadrawhi's. Would one or the other be better this late in the season?  I'm guessing they were all harvested in fall 2011 (pretty…Continue

Irridated fruit :-(

Started this discussion. Last reply by Sile Indigo Feb 27, 2012. 2 Replies

I've heard that pretty much all fruit imported from other countries to the US is irridated to kill bugs and extend shelf life.  I have also heard that once its irridated it doesn't really ripen…Continue

I have been having trouble finding ripe fruit in my area, now that it's winter.  Fruit that isn't ripe or is force-ripened really doesn't agree with my stomach. So, I'm wondering--which do you guys…Continue

Left in the Dark

This group is for all who desire to investigate, or believe themselves to have understood, the effects (probably positive, but perhaps even profound) that foli-frugivorous diets can have on human neurology, especially that of our eventual foli-frugivorous progeny, as outlined in the book 'Left in the Dark' (called 'Return to the Brain of Eden' in its third edition), based on the experimentation and research by Tony Wright. The idea is that members can discuss the validity and implications of…See More

Irridated fruit :-(

I've heard that pretty much all fruit imported from other countries to the US is irridated to kill bugs and extend shelf life.  I have also heard that once its irridated it doesn't really ripen properly.I live in an area with cold winters, so literally ALL the fruit I have access to right now, especially the juicy tropical fruits and melons that I think are best (besides some frozen local Door County cherries I found) is from somewhere else.  I have been able to find a little produce grown in…See More

Frozen vs. rehydrated dried fruit?

I have been having trouble finding ripe fruit in my area, now that it's winter.  Fruit that isn't ripe or is force-ripened really doesn't agree with my stomach. So, I'm wondering--which do you guys think is better, frozen fruit or (soaked/rehydrated) dried fruit?Any tips for getting ripe oranges during the winter?  Every place I've found online has been too pricey...like $40 for 10lbs.  See More

Sourcing fruit in a cold climate

I live in WI (in the US), and our winters here are long and cold.  :-(  I am having trouble finding quality fruit that is ripe and good tasting.  What are your feelings about eating prefrozen berries?  I can get a good quality brand of a variety of different berries from the store, that are very juicy and taste very good.  But because they are frozen, do they lose a lot of nutrients?I'd love to have access to fresh local fruit, but nothing grows around here in the winter!!! :-(  See More

I'm an artist and imaginative person, who is very interested in a raw-foods diet! I have some autoimmune health problems that I am healing from, and have found that just eating raw for a few weeks now has helped immensly.
I also love animals of all kinds (especially the strange ones like pufferfish and squids <3 ), being outdoors in nature, foraging wild foods, wood carving, sewing, natural plant dyes....

I live in a cold climate (WI) and have been having a lot of trouble finding fresh fruit locally. Also, deciding between organic and non organic, fresh vs frozen etc... This is the area that I could really use some advice on!
