80/10/10 in the Deep South!?

Well, I decided now was a good time to get back on here, and I honestly regret ever leaving. So, I have decided to move away from the ever-so-lovely and accommodating Austin, Texas to return to the place that my heart feels at home - Mississippi.  I will be moving to the coast and I'm actually buying my first house!  It is secluded in the woods with a big screened in wrap-around porch and perfect!  A hammock will be the first thing added to that porch! While all that is wonderful and I will be…See More

New Juicer!!! + "Scary Movies"

Well, today I went to the local grocery store just to pick up some lemons and a veggie peeler.  Well, while wandering through the isles I found a $30 juicer!  I was QUITE skeptical, but decided to look up reviews and to my surprise, this little Black & Decker juicer had amazing reviews.  I decided for $30 I could take a chance because I have wanted a juicer for so long and it would be awhile before I could afford the model I really want.  To my surprise, this juicer is amazing! Sure,…See More

"Hi Ria. Main thing here is that you need to try eating more. If you can get into the habit of starting the day with a big smoothy - something in the range of 700-1000 cals - then you'll set the whole day up right. Without that start,…"

For the past 6 months or so (since the beginning of 2012), I have been looking into the raw lifestyle and feel that it is something I really want to do. I was raised vegetarian and have a low tolerance for dairy, so I was near-vegan already. I tried doing cleanses, or just simply eating fruit for weeks at a time, but I always ended up back with my processed, cooked foods, and many times alcoholic binges were the reason for this. After my most recent alcohol-related mistake, I decided enough is enough and I am ready to ease myself into the 80/10/10 lifestyle once and for all. I've done a good job cutting out most processed food and I would consider myself vegan at this time, but I feel like I need a little more guidance before completely jumping into it and cutting out the cooked foods as well. The idea of having to eat so much more scares me because I wonder if I'll be able to do it, both physically, and cost-wise. It is also hard not having any friends that will be sharing the same diet as me. Completely losing a social life is what scares me the most. I decided to join 30BaD for guidance and a sense of community during my journey! I hope to meet some lovely people and to have completely embraced the HCRV lifestyle by this time next year!

Lazy Sunday

Posted on July 30, 2012 at 1:20pm 0 Comments

I always have Sundays off, and recently I have started taking Sundays VERY easy.  I've decided to try to get most errands done during the rest of the week so that I don't have to worry about a thing on my day of rest.  I do, however, enjoy going grocery shopping on Sundays, or to the farmer's market if I am lucky.  So, today I went shopping and stocked up on wonderful produce and raw nuts.  Everything I bought was vegan and the only non-raw items I purchased were almond-coconut milk and flax…

Food Poisoning!

Posted on July 29, 2012 at 1:26pm 3 Comments

I've been craving mangoes all the time these days.  Well, I worked a half shift yesterday and all I could think about was mangoes.  When I got off work around 2 I was starving.  I made the big mistake I keep making over and over again: I went too long without eating.  Four hours is a long time when you are trying to start off raw.  So, instead of going home and eating my delicious mangoes, I went to a local vegan/raw vegan restaurant, but I didn't even order off the raw portion of the menu!…

Getting the right start to the day means A LOT. Try out some banana-date smoothie recipes for breakfast and see how it goes, and if you love dates, carry some medjools around with you to snack on during the day. Another thing that several member swear by is drinking water or fresh-juice right away, to start the day hydrated. Lots of little tricks to help make this lifestyle work!
Good luck with everything :D
