Calories in Dates?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Mary TG May 3, 2011. 2 Replies

Quick question I've always wondered about adding up calories for dates. I use cronometer and the only dates listed are Medjool and Deglet Noor, and for each 1lb is roughly 1260 calories. Does this…Continue

So for thanksgiving I decided to go HFRV just for a day and made a gourmet raw pizza (made with a conglomeration of nuts, seeds, garlic, salt, etc. - I know...bad stuff), rather than bringing a bunch…Continue

Movies - Batman, Dumb and Dumber, Back to the Futures, Indiana Jones 1, 2, 3 (not so much 4), Dude Where's My Car, hmmm what else...i'm drawing a blank. It's hard to mention Dude Where's My Car and then even consider anything else worthy of mentioning as being on the same level of excellence!

Cool! Minnesota is pretty on top of things - but wayyy too cold. :-) Let me know how you like the Sunset Valley FM - you gotta find that guy with the persimmons - a small little stand - but worth it!! :-)

Oh well, I was a weekly shopper - meaning, whatever was in season and on sale each week, was where it was at. I found Austin to be really store by store. So, if you don't like the HEB near you, the one down the road was totally different! My favorite stores there -

Sun Harvest

Wheatsville (downtown on Guadalupe)

Sunset Valley Farmer's Market (3200 Jones Road, at the Toney Burger Center) - there is a guy that sells persimmons and they are DIVINE - and if you talk him into it, he will give you all his 'old' [read perfect!] ones for minimal..I think I got a grocery sack of them full for $5!! Especially at the end of the day - he also sells peaches during peach season that are sooo yummy! He is a great find -

HEB - I really only liked a few of their stores - the one on Research Blvd & 360, the one at William Cannon and Brodie and the one off Far West and Mopac - however, those are all South for you - you might find one closer to you that you like - I just found the other ones to not have the best looking produce and hardly any organic...they have HUGE bags of local oranges (Heald orchard, I believe) - they are coming in season soon and are crazy cheap and DIVINE - perfect for juicing (seeded variety).

Natural Grocer is also pretty good - they only carry organic produce...their specials are pretty good and they have bags of super cheap 'ripe' produce.

Central Market - of course it is good - but it is also $$ except for their specials...

Fiesta - only good for their citrus (coming in season), papayas and persimmons. Pass on everything else.

I didn't like any of the new shops that came into town - Sprouts, etc - the food seemed 'fake' to me.

Austin really has great produce. Hope that helps!!! Have fun!! Where did you move there from?

No problemo on the persimmons - I forgot to mention that I found the best ones at the South store...further for you so you might stop at the downtown location first! :-) Happy persimmoning!

Hi, we live in North Austin, in Anderson Mill. Ouch, Pflugerville, you may find some good farmers markets in Round Rock, but as far as a Whole Foods(store) for your more tasty and bigger selections you will have to travel a bit to North Austin. There is a Sprouts (store) in Round Rock, they just opened these up recently in our area, I haven't tried them tho. Let me know if you need help finding anything. Welcome.
