What's the consensus on figs around here? Does it matter if they are dried? I can't get fresh organic ones in London. Continue

Any Celiacs here?

I finally figured out the cause of so many of my health problems over the years. From my hair falling out, to manic depression and skin rashes on my arms to name just a few. It's been a struggle to cut out all bread and pasta (the gluten-free options are gross and I'd rather abstain than eat that crap) and have now also cut out rice. This leaves me with baked sweet and white potatoes which I eat every night with a little bit of olive oil and some veg. At first I thought it would be dull eating…See More

"It's a bit worse than you think. There is quite a bit of salt in those canned soups - Even the Amy's brand. Salt irritates your taste buds and also provides a dopamine rush. So salt can be both physically and psychologically addictive.…"

Why do so many people think citrus fruits are acidic?

Sorry if this has been covered before. I was looking at Youtube videos related to health earlier and was laughing at how many people commented that oranges and lemons are bad because they're acidic. Where did this fallacy come from? Even the experts made this claim or at least people who like to think they are. I've also never had a problem with fruit rotting the teeth - who makes this crap up?! I'm going to blame the tongue toothbrush guy.See More

Is it possible to stay HCRV without bananas?

I've been on a HCRV diet for a year, eating mainly citrus fruits, nuts and salad with a little olive oil.  I never feel hungry or tired and eat all the mangoes and oranges I want but my weight is still going down. To up the calories, I tried yet again to eat ripe bananas but the taste and texture are not to my liking. I'm worried it won't be possible to keep eating this way long-term without more high carbs - oh the first world problem of having to eat more than you care for! Would plain…See More

Five years ago I met a friend who was integral to my whole outlook on food. At the time I'd never heard of the term "raw vegan" nor met anyone like her who ate hemp seeds or sprouts and never cooked their food. Not that my diet was bad, I just never had any exposure to a way of eating outside of a supermarket - sad but true. This changed when I got really sick in 2009 and was told by my doctor to chug down a bunch of pills. That's when it clicked to me that maybe my friend wasn't a freak for eating herself to health (rather than to death) and it seemed worth a try, anything but junk up on meds. It took me well over a year to go vegan and then another 6 months to go raw. From what I've read, a lot of people make the decision overnight but for me it was more like a series of little Eurekas of "OK, not eating that ever again". It felt more and more like my mind had less say in what went into my body which as it happens, doesn't even like meat, pasta and diary - who knew! My final hurdle now is to eat more fruit (cue reason for wanting to join your site!)

Thanks for all that you do btw,
Kind regards
Mila

There is a beginner group here that you might think about joining and I'm sure there's a UK group as well.
