So I'm 17 and live at home, under my parents roof. When I became vegan, this was a BIG deal to them and was extremely hard for them to accept. They now have accepted it as part of who I am, and have…Continue

I am 17 years old and have been vegan for about 10 months. Before this, I was obsessed with body image and being skinny. I was extremely self conscious and my self esteem was below zero. Basically, I was not happy. I was restricting my calories and obsessing over every gram of food that I put in my mouth. I was misguided, confused, alone and in desperate need of help. I found Freelee's book and read it out of curiosity and something inside me clicked. I immediately turned vegan, but continued to restrict my calories and ate a high fat and protein diet cause that's what everyone seemed to do to look good right? (I couldn't have been more wrong). I did start to feel better, happier as a vegan and I knew I was onto something. I gradually started to increase my calories, but was still obsessive to the point of not wanting to got out. A little while ago, I rediscovered Freelee's book and reread it. I absorbed all the information this time, and again something clicked. I went on to read 80/10/10 by Douglas Graham and watch heaps of Freelee's videos (and am now reading The China Study). Again, something clicked and I knew that high carb raw veganism is the lifestyle that I'm meant for. As corny as it's sounds, I just feel like high carb raw veganism is where I'm meant to be and is the lifestyle that everyone should be living. So immediately I started to changed my diet, and started to eat more raw, fresh fruit and veg as well as cooked carbs like potatoes and rice. My first goal is to get to the raw till 4 lifestyle, and am currently very close to achieving this. I eat raw breakfasts and (most of the time) lunches and dinner dinner is sometimes raw but is mostly cooked carbs. Due to my current situation at home (as I live under my parents roof) living raw till 4 will be hard, but I know it is for me. Living this way has made me so much better and I am very different to the person I was for the first 16 years of my life. I finally feel that I am who I am meant to be and it is all thanks to this lifestyle. This lifestyle has also allowed me to stop obsessively counting calories and has allowed me to gain so much confidence. I know I am not exactly there yet, in regards to the guidelines of raw till 4, but I am so close and can't wait to see what the future brings.

I am hoping that I could get some guidance about living as a raw-till-4er (I think that's a word) under my parents roof. They are still struggling this me being vegan and I'm not really sure how to explain to them the concepts and facts of eating a high carb, predominantly raw diet. To be perfectly honest, I'm not even sure how to bring it up with them. Also guidance on navigating the world as a 17 year old fruit bat would be great, particularly in areas like work and school.
