My phys of exercise textbook says Fat is the primary source for energy?

Obviously I know with my gut that carbs are best, and my physiology of exercise text book says that carbs are used first, and fats are used after several hours- best for prolonged exercise, which I don't believe! Then it says "most importantly, fatty acids are the primary type of fat used by muscle cells for energy." What gives? What misunderstanding between general phys knowledge and fruity world accounts for this?See More

Hello All! My real name is Mara :) I've been vegan since May 27th, 2011 after watching the film, FOK (Forks Over Knives). I started out vegan for better health- SAD diets and calorie counts weren't cutting it for me. Gained some weight while trying vegan replacements and nuts over that first summer! I was experimenting with raw vegetables since November 2012, fruit since February 2012. I am now aiming for HCRV as of June 2012. I am currently working on replacing cooked meals with 811 recipes- going through the old memories and letting go. Very excited for life- more energy, better skin, digestion, sleep, emotions, etc.

I currently go to school at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa for psychology, interested particularly in ecopsychology although there are no courses here in Iowa on that. I am certified in Permaculture Design through Regenerative Design Institute in Bolinas, CA, as of June 2012. I volunteer at Seed Savers Exchange, my local co-op, and my vegan meetup (D.O.V.E.) in Decorah in my spare time.

I plan to someday make fruit more sustainable and available to urban peoples or to the world in general through food growing- food forest, urban gardening, etc. so I can eat my fruit locally and share with others! I'm eager to meet with people on this site as contacts, friends, and other!

I would like to know about more fruitarian communities around the world where I could potentially live or learn from. I would like to learn how to make this lifestyle sustainable for all people- in our bodies, psyche, how to grow food forests, urban change, perspective shifts, all of it!
30bad is a HCRV (high carb, raw vegan) internet community which promotes a high carb raw lifestyle free of any animal products. Our forum does not tolerate encouragement of anything contrary to HCRV. Nor do we allow endorsement of non-vegan items or practises which involve the imprisonment, exploitation, abuse or murder of sentient beings. Need to Recommit

Posted on November 14, 2012 at 10:38am 8 Comments

I need to recommit to fully raw rather than HC cooked.  My mental health is dwindling, succumbing to self-doubt, sadness for no reason.

I'm still eating a lot of high carb cooked, as I haven't totally figured out that it's bad in extreme, personal experience.

The thing that is TOTALLY making me question high carb cooked is when I don't get enough carbs, I tend to start questioning myself and my actions A LOT MORE than necessary.  Also, I have to start TRYING to be happy. …

Is it just me or focusing on % not so effective?

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 12:11pm 3 Comments

Is it just me or is focusing on percentages of raw-ness not very effective when it comes to eating raw?  I know that saying "I'm 100%" or "I'm 99%" can be convincing for other people once you've become raw, helping them see in a more numerical form that you're only eating fruit, greens, veggies, etc.

But in terms of changing over to the diet, I am not so sure that it is helpful.  I see a lot of discussions on flip-flopping and monitoring day-to-day.  I am a newbie and…

I hit the wall of salt! Celery powder to the rescue!

After about a month of raw vegan, I hit the wall of salt!  I am definitely trying this salt-free dressing recipe- or something like it- to deal with my cravings tonight!

Raw Lessons #1&2: Little Voices and Cooked Food HURTS!!

Posted on July 13, 2012 at 8:00am 7 Comments

So, as I have inevitably had a few cheats over the past month and a half, most of them happening in the past two weeks, interestingly enough, NONE of them have gone over well.  My first raw lesson learned: cooked food sucks.  Of course, I think I have not been eating enough calories on some days, and the next thing I know, I get cravings for cooked food.  I honestly believe that my body is telling me, "You aren't giving me enough calories, and it's painful because I need fuel, so I'm going…

Thanks! I have been a vegan since 2003 and recently trying to go 100% raw. The experiences and problems that you are having is quite normal, and you should not worry too much about it . Just remember a change like this does not happen overnight. Always set small objective and think long term gains. As long as you have DECIDED,COMMITTED, you will SUCCEED.                                     And buy the way the new photo you posted shows a beautiful, fresh, enrgetic and revitalized face. Please stay with this diet you will be all right.
