Let us have the truth, so that the Heavens may rejoice!

I am basing the following poem on feelings I have for a particular dietary approach which I have been learning about and applying to the best of my abilities for almost two years.
The diet is conceptualised in a book titled ‘The 80/10/10 Diet’, and is otherwise known as a ‘low-fat, raw vegan’ way of eating. However, as you may come to understand, the ‘80/10/10’ concept as expressed by Dr. Douglas N. Graham leads itself into an entire lifestyle, which I consider to be in alignment with the conditions humans require in order to truly thrive. Although the poem is long, I don’t believe I could ever end the list of reasons I have for choosing this particular dietary path, even if (for some) it is considered an incredibly bizarre food-style in this day and age. Yet my enthusiasm has reached the best of me, and I believe this poem may help to enlighten, inspire, amuse, inform, entertain, and even healthfully encourage its readers, based on the very small yet extremely positive feedback I have received from readers thus far.

Why?
Errrr, ummm...you probably don't want to know. :P

Because it's clean,
Because it's easy,
Because I feel like it,
Because it's different,
Because it's what we're all designed for,
Because it's fun,
Because it's cheap,
Because I breathe,
Because I feel more human,
Because I stand out,
Because it gives me a spring in my step,
Because I become one big smile,
Because I want to explore my emotions,
Because nothing can fully describe it,
Because I want others to know what it's like,
Because I'm breaking out of the ball and chains,
Because the planet's creatures are dying,
Because we need to make it,
Because life becomes fruitful joy,
Because it may just be the path to end all suffering,
Because it solves almost every problem,
Because my feelings become palpable,
Because health matters so much,
Because it's the way forward,
Because animals are for patting,
Because there is this energy called Love,
Because I choose to love myself,
Because life's too short otherwise,
Because peace sprinkles into me,
Because the sun radiates through the day,
Because it's so sweet,
Because I want mine to be a fairytale existence,
Because Doug is just human enough for this world,
Because truth shatters conceptual, dogmatic baggage,
Because good always outlasts evil,
Because it's a rainbow after the storm,
Because dew glistens on leaves,
Because it's worth it,
Because I know too much now,
Because my cells sing,
Because the destruction must stop,
Because aspirations for a better world come forth,
Because it's one great, big miracle,
Because I am!
Because black-and-white needs colour,
Because birds fly,
Because an Intelligence is working through me,
Because it's something worth fighting for,
Because everybody wants it,
Because a new Earth is arising,
Because I'm unleashing divine energy,
Because this is our challenge,
Because I am an unswerving force for good,
Because it is sane and conscious,
Because nothing else matters as much,
Because it's like nothing else,
Because it's the diamond in the rough,
Because I'm not looking back,
Because 811 is just so much fun,
Because it's one of the causes of health,
Because it's species-specific,
Because of the science behind it,
Because, have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue-corn moon?
Because I care to,
Because Mother Nature never broke the heart that loved her,
Because the TALON (Truth And Laws Of Nature) has me in its grip,
Because thrashing myself when playing has never been more fun,
Because it's invigorating,
Because you do make friends with salad,
Because something's happening that I can't explain exactly,
Because life is meant to be peachy,
Because life's boring when you're sick,
Because my convictions are more solid than my abs,
Because the results go beyond anything you could hope for or expect,
Because I'm taking nowhere near as long to sleep food off,
Because I used to think it would never work but now I'm a zealot,
Because it's like a magic carpet ride,
Because it's a whole new world,
Because there's no turning back now,
Because I wish to see the Earth as a Garden of Eden,
Because it's the way it's supposed to be,
Because the ripple is creating waves,
Because the trickle is becoming a rushing stream,
Because of the syrupy smell in full bloom,
Because cute critters dwell amongst the trees,
Because the Universe is thanking me,
Because there's more to it than you think,
Because it goes to the core of who we are,
Because I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired,
Because it's the path less travelled, yet whose wear is more than that!
Because it is not flawed,
Because, it is time,
Because there are no dead-ends,
Because it works,
Because it's as if my life depends on it,
Because that's just the kinda guy I am,
Because there's something almost sexy about the whole idea,
Because I like being healthy,
Because my senses are on fire if I don't eat,
Because poetry wasn't something I could do before,
Because people waste their time thinking about silly things,
Because my moral imperative is telling me to,
Because yes, prof. of political science, humans are emotional,
Because, people still get sick these days?
Because I couldn't imagine it any other way,
Because it's ultra-conservative,
Because it's one less incongruence in my life,
Because I'm doing something worth talking about,
Because people are catching on,
Because it's fun going against the grain,
Because I'm trying to fill in the hole I've dug,
Because even a dead fish can float downstream,
Because cooked meals look like my feet should go into them,
Because I'm in love with rollinia!
Because my senses and salivary glands like mango,
Because it's a really stupid question, sorry,
Because carbohydrates are meant to hydrate,
Because I'm actually getting sufficient protein,
Because high-fat just isn't all-that,
Because life is so much more than a bag of potato chips,
Because I am what I digest, absorb and assimilate,
Because I could just never eat that!
Because I'm eating real food,
Because the dots are being connected,
Because the pieces of the puzzle are all falling into place,
Because you don't wanna delve into the issue of b12,
Because cooked food cannot taste as good as raw feels,
Because everything in this life is just practice,
Because you've got no idea what it's like,
Because health has no contradictions,
Because there's a war outside when there's a war inside,
Because I shouldn't have to be talking about it,
Because I'm under no obligation to explain why,
Because no, damn it, it's not a f****n cult,
Because mine don't stink no more,
Because all 'cides are poisons, including fries on the side,
Because I'll see you at the top, if you aren't waiting for an elevator,
Because it's a success formula,
Because I have a lot of respect for SAD-eaters, who are constantly deprived of vital nutrients,
Because habits get stronger through reinforcement,
Because athletic recovery becomes ridiculously efficient,
Because my head isn't in the clouds,
Because I haven't forgotten how to laugh or cry,
Because breakfast is fruit loops without the loops,
Because I'm being, here, now,
Because I feel comfortable in my own body,
Because if you're not totally committed, you're uncommitted,
Because, hands down, it is the most sustainable diet for the planet,
Because it's about time I stand up for what I believe in,
Because, if you really want to know, I can make an appointment for you at a time that suits you,
Because I'm a selective sponge, filter, compressor and regurgitator,
Because I'm trying to set the example I would want a leader to set,
Because the Vedic culture is back in town,
Because I'm cultivating the wisdom of kids,
Because the variety is incredible!
Because, in a nutshell, high fat diets don't work,
Because I am Australian,
Because my heart will go on,
Because sleep comes before I can say, "Lychees!",
Because...Remember...Who you are,
Because, I dunno, and I don't care!
Because any other 'food' is out of the question,
Because Siddhartha Gautama was onto something,
Because I want to be the best me I can be,
Because it's the future,
Because getting sunburnt requires a fair bit now,
Because sometimes I don't have to pay for food for weeks,
Because the protein question is really getting out of vogue,
Because it's the really smart cookies who are into it ,
Because that weird thing I'm eating is actually a fruit, yes,
Because patience is a virtue that waits for no one,
Because I'm a sleuth for the truth,
Because I want to become a jack-of-all-trades, and master of life,
Because abstinence makes the heart grow stronger,
Because there isn't an arthritic bone in my body,
Because it's never wrong to do the right thing,
Because mine eyes hath seen the glory...
Because gluttony isn't good, but healthful eating is,
Because I'm making friends with my food,
Because desert is first on the menu...always!
Because life is even better than a box of chocolates,
Because it beats fasting, or having to,
Because it involves some serious life-training,
Because I don't want to kill any mockingbird,
Because the means is so intimately connected to the end,
Because I'm stopping less to catch my breath up this mountain,
Because information disparity won Stiglitz a Nobel prize,
Because I ain't holding my breath for the Mayans,
Because, have you ever tried to eat that in its natural state?
Because the body, not the mind, is in charge of my decisions,
Because it's hard to know something from the outside in,
Because my food doesn't try to get away from me,
Because you can walk a day in my shoes if you aren't convinced...
Just make sure you bring back my shoes!
Because you know it's time for a tropical holiday this winter,
Because one's life should be their masterpiece,
Because I'm developing the body beautiful,
Because it's party-time again! Bring out the sweets!
Because I'm learning versatility,
Because, hey, that's what I'm here for,
Because rarely does school teach you to connect the dots,
Because the dots sure as hell can be connected,
Because it's a marrying of logic and idealism, of science and philosophy,
Because I'll tell you why in another hundred years or so,
Because one day we'll all be saying, 'Hakuna Mutata!',
Because yes, philosophy lecturer: other animals and even plants do feel pain and fear death,
Because no, the pig would never want to be eaten,
Because maybe the true carnivores will turn vegan too - who knows?
Because it's a piece of cake...with only the cherry on top,
Because I'm laughing all the way to the sand bank,
Because juggling the balls of health is a fun challenge!
Because, let the chooks go 'Bok!'; the cows go 'Moo!'; the pigs go 'Oink!' and the fowls go 'Coo!'; the ducks go 'Quack!'; the lambs go 'Baa!'; the monkeys go 'Fruit!' and we do too!
Because you don't want to know what goes on in an abattoir,
Because you vote with your dollar, your actions and your mouth,
Because everything you do has a ripple effect on others,
Because I'd rather pay the price for health - which isn't negotiable,
Because the donkey likes the stalk of celery,
Because you don't want to let that horse see your apple tree come autumn,
Because my hours awake, and my hours asleep, are over twice as productive,
Because who knew that this would actually work, eh?
Because it's an experiment I'm doing - with no foreseeable termination date,
Because when you snorkel, you don't salivate over what you see down there,
Because whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic animal does not win me over,
Because let the hens keep their own eggs,
Because the livestock industry is the no.1 anthropogenic cause of global warming...
Because cooking is no.2,
Because every piece of produce is the best piece,
Because I can get satisfaction,
Because animals prefer to be jubilant upon seeing us,
Because we have cast a deep well full of their sorrows...
And ours...
For too long,
Because Nature is not silent, we just do not hear her,
Because I know the universe is thanking me,
Because let's go all the way,
Because we should all go walk-about at least once in our lives,
Because we should carry no more possessions than we need in this lifetime,
Because I'm sick of being a raw dustpan in a cooked closet - I'm ready to clean up this world,
Because if at least one Being has been comforted or helped by my existence...
Because I'll keep most of the reasons to myself,
Because, oh, you jest! You jest now...
Because I'm a stand-up comedian awaiting them tomatoes,
Because... Hey! Now that I thought about it...
Because I want to find more lagoons like that one,
Because Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea,
Because, Nature! Aren't you quite the prize? For I am you, and you are me, as I see,
Because let Winnie the Pooh have his honey,
Because animals don't come with a zipper,
Because humans aren't built with cookstoves on their backs,
Because we shouldn't all go live in the forest - but instead create our own wherever we can,
Because detox pox don't rock my socks,
Because the iceberg is fast-approaching, and I'm already back at land,
Because doubt serves its purpose by keeping me on my toes,
Because a rope is only as strong as where it is most frayed,
Because the mynah bird goes, 'Squawk! Let Sleep Come' and it comes,
Because I'm nourishing the body on a cellular level,
Because every parent wants their children to go one step further,
Because I shan't let my thought be fettered by fear,
Because I have a dream,
Because one day it will be the food choice of the people, by the people, for the people,
Because malicious thoughts may come, but I don't give them a seat to stay,
Because synchronicities and coincidences keep popping their head up,
Because I understand the rationale behind what I do,
Because you're funny if you haven't picked up on it yet,
Because now this is your chance,
Because our feelings have been etched into who we are,
Because we are the accumulation of a multitude of diverse universal energies - the strongest being Love!
Because I hadn't known about it before, but know that I do I'm acting on my knowledge,
Because I'm in full control of my own moment-by-moment decisions,
Because, is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's another person soaring on 811,
Because this is only one side of me,
Because 'I think, therefore I am', is bunk,
Because so much of what we think we've learnt is bogus,
Because I duly confess to a partial tendency towards sarcasm,
Because brevity has it's role, but not with this list,
Because I'm a point of consciousness in this ever-fluctuating world of form,
Because I'm giving in to that which is divine in me,
Because what's needed is a sort of anti-system,
Because even systemic problems have their root cause/s
Because, you hopefully know what I mean,
Because the forbidden fruit was not fruit,
Because you ain't super-sizing me!
Because I could never eat Chinese for a month either,
Because, like racism, we've fallen into 'speciesism',
Because everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you,
Because anything else does not compute,
Because no, I'm not done yet,
Because the only spin here is an energetic person twirling, or the bicycle wheels a'spinning, to the organic shop once I'm done winning,
Because my night-life is wilder than most other teens,
Because if your fridge is running, you better go out and catch it!
Because I want to know the Mind of God,
Because I'm getting ready for my first H&F Week,
Because Rusty's Market at Cairns on a Sunday arvo will explain why,
Because I don't have time for anything else,
Because Garfield has to lose the weight sooner or later,
Because I've become my own doctor,
Because, give it a go and you won't have to ask me,
Because symptoms of healing are a cause for celebration,

Because the result of the trawling is a lot of bawling,
Because I just wanna get the message out,
Because being the best example I can be wins for everyone involved,

Because it's never right to do the wrong thing,
Because get off the stimulants and you'll see how much sleep you need,

Because we're not immune to the consequences of our decisions,
Because I'm learning to be careful in what I wish for,

Because maybe I'm just fooling myself about it,
Because it's not 'who' is right, it's 'what' is right,

Because I cast a stone-iron glare at anyone who daresay that it doesn't work,
Because you can grow your own - all of it,
Because no, nonno, we're not 'everythingavores',
Because our dogs loooove grapes, and another one I know scoffs down mandarins so fast!
Because I like KFC: Kill-Free Cuisine,
Because you can agree with at least some of these reasons, right?
Because I feel as if I'm repeating myself,
Because the passionfruit grow sweet,
Because it goes so much further than the diet,
Because, you should try it sometime,
Because economic measures never really measure anything,
Because I wish you didn't have to ask,
Because I come with a sign always: Under Construction,
Because we all need to see, and truly nurture, the trees,
Because everyone is beautiful now,
Because I'm acting as a tree or ant would, if it were human,
Because I exist to persist and die if I desist,
Because if I'm not gunning for the ideal, what am I gunning for?!
Because, stop reading this and get on with your gardening,
Because, care for a sip of coconut?
Because who wouldn't want to be like Tarzan?
Because it's not just the having, it's the getting,
Because 'if it ever fails me' isn't worded right. It's 'if I fail it',

They reach for the fruit that hadn't been reached before,
Because the foodnsport team ain't there for nothing - they're there for you,
Because I'm only getting as much out of this list as you do,

Because all the other styles of eating confuse me,

Because chlorine is of the bleach family, yet we still wash our f & v's with it,

Because I want to live life on my terms,

Because even if garlic's in your shoe it comes out in your breath,

Because mass production just adds to the destruction,

And when I take, I wanna remember,

Because if temptation comes, you gotta hit it like the drums,
Because the death of addiction is the birth of true preference,

Because trust and dependency on others can be a weakness,
Because this had to be said sooner or later,
Because I want to leave no stone unturned,
Because strange things are happenin' to me,
Because when my old folks say, 'Back in the day...' I'm genuinely interested,
Because I don't want to let anybody else to put a value on my story,
Because all NLP is is: be wary of your thoughts and pay attention to others,
Because the proof is in the figgy pudding,
Because as soon as I let my guard down, it drops,

Because sorry, Mrs James, I accidentally ate my tropical fruit display that I was using as my science project,
Because I don't really care that you think I've gone bananas,
Because the bananas are in pyjamas and in my mouth I tell them, 'Goodnight!',
Because nah dude, getting off your face just ain't cool,
Because I'd drop the dope and let it roll down the slope,
Because you're doing a good deed when you plant a seed,

Because the tropics are not for drop-kicks,
They're the place to find top chicks,

Because no one knows everything, and that's the beauty of it all,
Because laugh as if you had no concerns, and cry as if you missed them,

Because whether it's dietetics, noetics or farming ethics, they all say the same thing about this diet: Did Not Fail,
Because everyone needs to start their own FTPF,
Because to move in the direction of your vision is an admirable decision,
Because it's time we got out of the health Dark Ages,
Because it's time to live it rather than merely consider it,
Because 'as slowly as necessary' is an illusory transitionary obstacle,
Because the produce person always gives me good deals, or I don't take 'em,
Because life is an exchanging of souls; a synergy in action,
Because you better believe it, buddy,
Because a headless chook doesn't run around for long before it falls on something,
Because all 'cides equate to death,
Because I'd rather be doing nothing, intelligently, than nothing intelligently,
Because even the Book of Proverbs has its faults,
Because vaccination and immunisation just shouldn't be done in this nation,
Because, woah, I'm bad for business... hee hee,
Because my palate is whet for that strawberry pallet,
Because you put your left foot in and your left foot out,
Because Nature makes a mean Monstera,
Because give the lines a google if you're just plain frugal,
Because you're meant to pause after reading each one,
Because the body heals itself, but why abuse it?
Because we could always do with a check up from the neck up,
Because it's stupid to hit your head against a wall - once you know you're doing it,
Because I'm not writing this list for nothing...
I'm writing it for you,
Because you'd be surprised at what I could say,
Because going a full year makes nobody look back,
Becauseif you don't have access to any real food, it could be worth fasting in the meantime,
Because you are your own inspiration,
Because if this were a religion, it would call itself Life,
Because beauty should come with a sign: Not For The Mind Only,
Because, I can dance!
Because I'm almost like a glow-in-the-dark sticker,
Because surely this diet is sorely needed,
Because something really bad was about to happen...and then I woke up,
Because it doesn't take a rocket scientist,
Because I don't want to smell anymore butts!
Because most of these are good enough reasons in and of themselves,
Because I am going to be when I grow up,
Because cheeky is as cheeky does,
Because most of us need to sleep better than we need to eat better,
Because I enjoy my tomato-basil soup for the soul,
Because I've got unlimited fruit power!
Because Captain Planet would be proud,
Because I've got everything I need with me: myself!
Because I'm giving the animals space to breathe - as I myself inspire,
Because I get to play with my food when I'm juggling,
Because we are the champions,
Because in the eye of the tiger I don't see any food,
Because a book would've taken too long to publish, and I couldn't add to it in the meantime,
Because I wanna grow them all, I wanna grow them aaall - pocket seeds,
Because, fly me to the moon and then you'll see that it's not cheese,
Let me know what the food is like on Jupiter and Mars,
In other words, see Earth eyes true,
In other words, please eat the durian too,
In other words, we need yoooouuuuuu,
In other words, I love you,
Because the grass between my feet feels neat,
Because almost everybody is born healthy, before they undertake unhealthy habits,
Because Australia is too far behind in organics,
Because fame and fortune fear me,
Because your mind is your greatest ally once mastered,
Because God, thankyou for granting me such serenity, from the beginning,
Because if it had to come to it, I'd like to be able to survive and, yes, thrive, in a natural setting,
Because, how can I fully convey it to you?
Because I know I'm in store for a big surprise,
Because the day always follows the night, and the sun is always there even behind the clouds,
Because when it comes to sleep, carbs and water, it can be tough getting enough,
Because alright, that's it. Can someone take over for me please?
Because it's fun saying NEXT to rejection,
Because, we're in heaven,
Because the mind chatters too much,
Because it's as if it's my calling,
Because I don't eat a food before it's time,
Because the mono-meals work well at least once a day,
Because I might be getting slightly carried away with all this,
Because maybe we're born for it,
Because I don't have to be telling you why, surely!
Because I'd rather live alongside bonobos than most humans,
Because if you try to break the Laws of Nature, you only end up proving them,
Because application seems to be coming first, then theory,
Because I'm withstanding the baggage of an energetic onslaught,
Because, how did our work mentality so strongly seep into our play?
'Cos it's aaaaaaaalll right,
Because eco and feminism were meant to go together,
Because the baby doesn't berrate itself for falling over,
Because 30 bananas a day is good for you,
Because I'm so sick of hate songs,
Because I am as the kookaburra laughs,
Because we are one, but we are many, and from all the lands on Earth we come,
Becausethe 811 concept exists for those for whom it exists,
Because organic's got a pretty good track record,
Because if I made my own website it'd just confuse you more,
Because in the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight,
Because 'The 80/10/10 Diet' is one of life's many teachers,
Because I'm doing some serious housecleaning - both inside and out,
Because if I don't do a job in its entirety, what use is there in doing it?
Because to 'succeed' really does just mean to 'follow through',
Because sometimes it doesn't have to make any sense, it just has to feel right,
Because it's not hard; it's hard to watch our planet die,
Because infinite economic growth in a finite environment is truly malignant indeed,
Because I'd title this little poem: Luke Sartor's Roar,
Because inner fortitude lays waste to the dark energies' multitude,
Because you know what 'Veda' means,
Because the planet would run to the street as She screams, 'What about me?',
Because all that most scientists do is break apart the whole...
The good ones are those who can put it back together, better,
Because we learn a lot from our successes, and even more from our failures,
Because I want those who ask it to see the answer as self-evident,
